Anyone commute from J9 M27 to Christchurch, what’s it like? Wave 105 paints a grim picture.

Currently commuting to Hook atm and get there at circa 07:15, takes about an hour.

A32 home is much better

Depends what time you'll be starting.

I occasionally used to go from the Mrs' at J7 to central Bournemouth and it was fine for starting work at 7 or 8am. From home at J2 I used to do it door to door in 20 mins when starting at 7am.

Traffic was always bad in the opposite direction.

Needs to be early to miss the traffic. Also a nightmare in summer months as every t**t in the country with a caravan wants to head that way

Should be fine in the mornings heading towards Christchurch with an early start. Coming back in the summer will be a PITA when every new forest / Bournemouth day visitor is also heading home.

Also if there is an accident on the A31 - You're pretty much screwed. No decent alternative routes. Don't even think about touching Lyndhurst in the summer.

The M27 heading west from j9 to at least the M3 junction is usually shocking in the morning, even before 8!

Rather you than me! Christchurch is so busy lately. I try and avoid driving through it if I possibly can. It's even worse in the summer. And the A31 at Ringwood is terrible at rush hour.

Just did it for a meeting, so quiet. A35 etc.

Don’t think a reflection. Hook would prob be easier

Roughly where in Christchurch? Outskirts will be ok (most of the time), but more central can be a PITA.

Obviously if there's an accident on the A338 or A31 then the whole area will grind to a halt.

As you are travelling to the Sainsbury side of Christchurch, you should try the M27/ A31 to Stoney Cross. Turn left to Emery Down which will take you to the Christchurch side of Lyndhurst. Then A35 to Christchurch.

Going hone, Lyndhurst should be ok so take the A337 back to the M27.

Trying to get in and out of Christchurch to/from the A338 at peak times can be very hard going.

Near Stewart’s Garden Centre side.

Stoney Cross and then through Burley?

No. I think you referring to the Pickett Post turning with the services on both sides? The Burley Road is too slow. Stoney Cross is before that. The Emery Down road is about half a mile after the Little Chef and takes you all the way to the A35

Will try and decide over the weekend
Hook with a mind numbing job, but decent ££
Christchurch interesting hopefully, but traffic woes and less ££

Stewarts employee here. smile Not that site but I spend my time driving about Dorset & Hants.

I think the worse bit of your journey will be the first bit, until M27 J5.

Barring incident that is.

But there are plenty of variations on the route from J3 onwards so you aren't stuck with one route.

Got to be a million times better and more predictable than the M3!!

There's the Romanse traffic status chaps on Twitter with fast updates. Often useful.
