Hello Joe, notice you have recently joined the group, so, welcome , trying too be a little more constructive and helpful in answering your request, I have no knowledge of Crucial Automatics, but looking at their web site, they come over pretty well, however, I have used expressgearbox.co.uk in Dundas Spur Portsmouth, and had a very positive experience with them, and would thus recommend them. I have also used express gearboxes in Pompey to rebuild my RAV4 manual box which was popping out of 5th gear.

They did a very good job but insisted up front on using top quality parts and no shortcuts (e.g., if we don’t replace the hub and use genuine Toyota parts, it won’t last long and we won’t guarantee it). It may not be the cheapest quote you will get, but will be competitive like for like.

If you are considering keeping the vehicle long term, I would speak to them in addition to others. If you are just doing the minimum to get it usable and planning to get shot of it, then maybe consider a cheaper company who would be happy to apply a bodge.

I used them to replace the gearbox on my TR8, as they specialise in classic triumphs as well.

Obviously, It wasn't a modern autobox, but I couldn't fault the service and level of professionalism.

I used Crucial maybe 4 years back for a full autobox service on my e39 5 series: very satisfied, very well treated, full explanation of exactly what was involved & the car felt new again. Happy to recommend.
