Broke down halfway up it once when I had my MG. Interesting road ... prefer the bit afterwards though as you head up toward Compton Abbas ...

? The bit were all the tarmac has broken apart and fallen down into the valley? I think they flogged all the tarmac laying machinery in Dorset.

How many have they got?
If it's only one and you know where it is then your sorted.
If not then you at least know where one of them is.

Watch out when going up the hill and on to the top road as i found at the weekend they're re-laying the road(or throwing loose gravel on top).
Theres no signs and i can tell you it does'nt sound good under a Caterham when you hit the gravel!

Cheers Mark

Went on the road from Wimborne, through Sixpenny Handley/Tollard Royal and down zig zag to Shaftsbury - this is a truly splendid route, and on a summers day like today, it is second to none. Everyone coming down south should try out this route.....oh, and the A272 & the coast road from Weymouth to Bridport. Any others ????
Peter

I took that route the other week M27-A31-then above route... wouldnt have even known about it - wife is travelling sales rep in Dorset - makes for learning all the nice roads
