I spotted a copper in traditional white helmet and fluro vest with police on the bike riding a red Ducati Pangale yesterday in havant about 1500. Had a second look as don't usually see hi viz on that sort of bike!
Not sure if it was unmarked or just someone riding to work
I have seen this chap too. He got on the M27 at Whiteley and disappeared like a scolded cat towards Southampton. Not sure if it was unmarked or just someone riding to work
He had a black rucksack on when I saw him, he had POLICE in small lettering on the back of his white helmet. I was also drawn to the Flouro stickers on the fuel tank as unusual for that type of bike (and the white helmet too).

I am glad it wasn't just me then! So do we reckon unmarked or just someone riding to work?He had a black rucksack on when I saw him, he had POLICE in small lettering on the back of his white helmet. On the subject of police bikes, the usual speed trap in Lovedean Lane was in operation this morning. Are the police allowed to hide in bushes? Because both myself and another resident have witnessed this rather underhand operation. It certainly doesn't help police PR as I've seen them have a young lady driver in tears a while ago.

Yes they are. Nothing to state have to be visible. Quite often have drivers in tears especially if they are on 9 pts and this stop will likely result in a ban.BIRMA said:
Yes I'm quite sure the young girl with her granny in the car was a serial offender
How can you tell from just driving by? Just because she is young and with her granny doesn't mean she's not on 9 pts. Can quite easily get to 9 in just a couple of hours (6 for mobile phone then go through a speed camera and get 3)People deal with things differently, for some the thought of receiving points on their licence is extremely upsetting. Just because someone gets upset by it doesn't make them immune though.
Why should I ticket a 35 year old male body builder going 45 in a 30 but let off a young girl crying at the same speed?

I'm not questioning the why's and wherefore's of who should get points it's the whole method at which you achieve the results that I question.

I quite often walk down to where they operate in Lovedean Village Hall as a casual observer to get a better understanding of how the law works. The point is when I see a grown man lurking in the bushes (and a fellow motorbike rider too) I wonder what is the road safety aspect of his/their presence. I've lived there for thirty years and have never been informed by the residents committee or been aware of any accidents on that stretch in that time. What there is of course is a 30 limit with a slight bend that hides the presence of someone lurking in the bushes with a speed gun in his hand.

There doesn't need to be a safety aspect to every single speed enforcement site. It's our job to enforce speed limits whether there has been an accident or not. It's still the law and just because there hasn't been an accident doesn't mean it doesn't apply. What you'll probably find if residents complain all the time at that location, a speed survey was done and found a high percentage travel above the 30mph limit. I'm not questioning the why's and wherefore's of who should get points it's the whole method at which you achieve the results that I question.
I was caught once by an unmarked car and it actually made me slow down more than a high visibility camera as you end up thinking a camera could be anywhere.
They seem to be out daily on my commute at the moment, the speed camera van mainly. Droxford, Exton, Bishops Waltham,. they are somewhere every day. However, on the huge stretch of the A32 I work on, where all the bikes wind up into 3 figures, cars the same, i've not seen a camera or unmarked in 4 years!

There are not that many places to park up on the long national stretches of the A32. Unmarked bikes and cars regularly patrol that route though. I would say daily! You might not see them often as they are unmarked
