passed this in Manchester (whitefields) the other day

never seen something other than a prison that looked so secure, umpteen cameras at each corner what looks like an electric fence on top of a already rather high wall.

Looks like some sort of water / sewerage treatment works

If you exit street view you can see 2 large circles inside the walls

I did have a look at the satellite view and though gas storage, but not with that level of security around it

Maybe a data centre, but I don't know of any in that area - probably on the flightpath, which is a no no.

It was originally a water reservoir; It's on old maps as such. Clark's Hill reservoir to be exact.

I know of a guy who got into a construction site and tried to nick some copper lines that just happened to have 11kv flowing through them at the time, apparently after being slightly surprised that the copper he tried to grab was actually a bit on the live side he managed to stumble to his mates house who said he was still smoking when he fell through his back door. By all accounts the ambulance crew and contractor from the electricity board who then promptly turned up couldn't work out how he was still alive. The police arrested him for suspected metal theft and trespass but the mad bd sued the construction company for negligence as the live cables weren't cordoned off and allegedly he received a £100k+ pay out.

I thought gas storage too. What are the green boxes, 4 in all, one on each side? Not far from me - might take a look!

Council planning site maps lists it as "tanks" too, but it does seem very secure. Looks like there's a second, inner perimeter fence.
