Mrs G and I fancy a little 2/3 day break in the Lake District next month once the kids are back at school.

Ideally a nice little country hotel in Windermere where we can unwind (Mrs G has never been to that part so wants to go there unless there are better suggestions) but a good BnB is also a possibility. Going on our major hols in October so don’t want to spend a fortune but open to suggestions

Thanks.

Try the Cedar Manor, nice down to earth owners, not too silly in price, it's a lovely property and you'll be looked after.

Burnside Hotel is nice if you’re looking for the Spa vibe. Often on secret escapes too if you’re flexible on dates.

It's now called Lakes Hotel and Spa after a big refurb, it's not a country house hotel mind.

We got married at Storrs Hall. Took it over for the weekend. Lovely, not cheap though.

Don't bother with Lindeth Howe in Bowness. £250 a night for a room with no view, basic bathroom and very little in the way of luxury other than a snobbyness and delusion of grandeur. I was there at the weekend and was pretty disappointed. Not an awful place and we didn't have any major problems, it was just underwhelming.

On the B&B side, I can recommed The Hideaway - https://www.thehideawayatwindermere.co.uk/.

For food, I strongly recommend The Old Stamp House in Ambleside - https://www.oldstamphouse.com/. I'm lucky enough to have eaten at a number of different Michelin Star, and this was one of my favourites. We went at lunch, which was really good value (as far as these things go). This was just as covid restrictions were lifting, so things might have changed since then.

We’ve stayed multiple times at the Lakes & Spa. The staff are excellent and the owners have really improved the place since they took over the old Burnside Hotel.
They’ve even got a Mulsanne to run you into the village restaurants etc in the evening !

The best bit is the hatch from the bar direct into to the spa...
