Hello

Is there an annual karting competition that you fellow North Westoners undertake at a karting track?

Am on a stag do next month and have been asked to go the Daytona track in Manchester.

www.daytona.co.uk/intro.php?venue=Manchester

Anyone any comments about it/past histories?

You know what. I live round the corner from this place and have never been! I've been karting at a few different places, Warrington, 3 Sisters but never at the one about 2 miles away...how bizarre!

I really must try harder in 2006.

I can literally see it from my work. I went last year, we had a night there. It is good and well organised.

Could do with going again really. The last one I went to was one in Gorton but can't remember the name. Dinjy old place but great circuit and a great blast.

( Oh, and I won. )

Me too. Only in Colne, Lancashire, so well within 30 minutes for me.

If you organise, I will join, if invited.

Yes its called Prestige. It is a small course compared to that of Manchester.

Have had a few GP's there, very good. £25 I think it is.

Have been to Daytona Manchester a few times with work. The nights are well organised and great fun. They will also put on food if you ask, burgers & Chips etc.

It's a good fun night out.

Enjoy.

Went to Prestige last night on a friends xmas do. (Yes I know it is still November but they are plumbers and are very very busy running up to the festive period)

Was told that once upon arrival I would be put into a group of 6. Arrived and straight on the track, what a good do!!

This was a brief attempt at the track. Managed a fair few laps in 30 minutes.

Notice the red - thats starting point.

Notice the green - very very slippy. Nearly crashed into the barrier a few times but managed to keep the kart sideways.

And err I finished in a lousy 5th. Good thing being I am going back there next Tuesday for a grand prix and then off to Daytona on 3rd December.

In addition to this.

It was not Daytona in Manchester but the karting track in Warrington. The organiser who invited us all got it wrong. But, if you have never been, highly recommended. I was on a stag do and 26 turned up. We were told that we would have the track to ourselves and it was a real good experience, details as follows:

Briefing at 12.30pm - Was told if we missed this we were not allowed to race.

1pm - Practice laps, numbers given to names, numbers called on track for 3 laps.

Followed by the heats in which it consisted of 3 laps. The final was 6 laps and was the best 8 of the group.

Track:

DARK GREEN - START

LIGHT GREEN - Raised hairpin

YELLOW - FINISH

RED - Big raised area or flyover. (Can be seen clearly on the 2nd photo)

Couple of pics from my phone:

Races as follows:

Heat 1 - Started 4th, finished 3rd

Heat 2 - Started 3rd, finished last - blackflagged

driver in front was difficult to pass, so I rammed him into the wall

Heat 3 - Started 2nd, finished 2nd

Heat 4 - Started 1st, finished 1st

Heat 5 - Started 5th, finished 2nd.

All in all, top experience and will hopefully go back next year.

lol...

went with work to a karting everning in Leeds October i think it was...

got blackflagged at least twice during the endurance event! tho they started blackflagging everyone as folk were double peddling and overheating the brakes!

1st time i was pushed into the wall went trying to overtake someone. second time overcooked a hairpin on cold tires after a change over.

our team was then disqualified when the next guy got blackflagged for ignoring a blue flag.. and taking 2 long to come in (tho he claimed to be doing the 2 laps they told us to do after being flagged)

fun was had by all
