Although not located on a main road does anyone else remember Martin Ingham-he always had hilarious adverts for the cars he sold, and always had some very nice cars for sale too.
He's still going, with some very nice motors and I'm pretty sure he still does the funny ads. He had a Diablo, a replica lightweight e-type and a 911 that had belonged to Richard Burns last time I went.5 wh said:

I reckon this is him.Really disappointing, I was expecting 'Famous Italian redhead with a desire for speed and european touring, loves tlc and expects the high life', no 'German thoroughbred of some repute desires new master to whip her into shape' or anything like he used to use in his ads Used to love reading what he'd thought up to sell a knackered Range Rover.

Is he the guy who used to advertise if you rang him and you were a canvasser he would go into "uncontrollable valve bounce", or some such??.......

I spoke to a customer who saw Martin last week-unfortunately he's not been very well recently and has scaled down his operation a bit since his heyday in the 90's.I reckon this is him.

Not even a sniff of an email back. Think he was offended that a 22 yr old quantity surveyor (a few years back) was applying for a job selling posh motors! Well, why the heck not!?!

Cant think, used to go up with a guy called Keith.
Robinson I think. Patsy ring any bells? Will probably see him again later on in the week.
Frank who had the Vauxhall scrappies is in Thailand, been there for about 9 years or so.
Didn't know Frank was in Thailand. Where? Do you know, as I'm out there now.

I asked about Patsy, he's got a few machines hired out and seems to be doing ok, he told me about his lads (Lee) Cossie, got a fair few quid under the bonnet.

Kinsey Jones Lotus dealers in Bury, and also for a time in Alderley Edge.
I went to the Bury showroom one day with the money burning a hole in my pocket to buy an Elise, but the staff didnt have the time or courtesy to even acknowledge me so I bought something else(Merc SLK)elsewhere.
They didnt last very long(only 3 or 4 years?)which isnt suprising IMO

I've enjoyed this thread, really sparked some nostalgia in my day.
From what I can gather there really used to be some great places around here, customer service was exceptional and repeats were constant. Thanks to Evans Halshaw et al I fear the days of enjoying your car purchase and forging friendships (in the most part) with your salesman are long gone.

As a young lad just passed his driving test in the early 80's. I used stand outside the Ferrari dealership on Peter Street in Manchester city Centre - can't remember the name of it, but remember seeing 308's inside the showroom.
My dad also bought his Audi's at Peter Street Motors (Audi Dealer) on Liverpool Street in Salford.
Ferrari dealers was Sutton, owned by the haulage company in St Helens. My dad also bought his Audi's at Peter Street Motors (Audi Dealer) on Liverpool Street in Salford.
The hours I spent stood outside Bauer Millet on Peter Street dreaming of the cars he had in there.
