Yes i remember Transound in Withington, next to Christie's. My recollections were of a large person in a rocking chair who reminded me of Marlon Brando in the Godfather, he asked me what i wanted, i said a radio\cassette player, he said what vehicle was it going into, i said a mk 3 Cortina GT, he then called out to someone, who came out of the back, who then took me into the back of the shop and sold me a Kenwood head unit. The next thing i remember is that some famous sports star took his car there to have a sound system fitted (i think it was a cricket player) his car went up in flames, i remember it been a big deal in the Manchester Evening News about it sometime later. I do remember seeing a fit young blonde with him at the time she was at the front of the shop. this is about 30+ years ago. But i was also in awe for the cars that were outside of his shop.

I remember a Peugeot main dealer in Oldham up near Alexandra Park, called Sven Carlson. My Dad bought a brand new Peugeot 309 GL in Wedgewood Blue from them back in the 80s.

The Peugeot garage in Wigan was first Saddler or something like that before becoming Firsway, and then across the road was Cherry Tree Autos (or something CherryTree) which was a Renault dealer we got an R21 Turbo from, in black, in 1989, I thought that car was amazing at 16!.

New one for the list.

CHESTER HONDA

Gone.

Been publicised a while that they're moving to Cheshire Oaks but all the cars seemed to disappear last week and all the signs are gone as of yesterday with an 'all enquiries' sign now in place.

Quite a prominent showroom and given the economic climate, one that I can't see being filled for a while! I hope i'm wrong.

Odd post - as you suggest, they have simply relocated to a new facility at Cheshire Oaks, which is now open.

That move is what did for Two Mills (mentioned on the previous page) though.

Dane VW are moving too later in the year - a bit further down Sealand Road.

Not really that odd a post? The name's now gone - no more Chester Honda. Now going to be Cheshire Oaks Honda.

Well, OK, but the thread's about the old names. Pinching a list from an early post:

Drabble and Allen...Jaguar/Manchester
Cliff Holden...Jaguar/Bury
Lockwood & Greenwood....Rover/Audenshaw
Hollingdrakes....Stockport
Henleys....Oldham & Victoria Avenue Middleton
Gordon Ford....Stockport
Quicks....Ford....Bury, Old Trafford, Ashton
Ian Anthony....Wilmslow

"Chester Honda" isn't the same thing. It's just the Honda dealer in Chester. They used to be (and were still known to some people as) Saunders, although the dealership has been owned by Holdcroft for years. Saunders still has an independant servicing operation in Saltney.

Does anyone know of the Toyota Garage that was near the Ship inn in Styal, at the back off Manchester Airport?
also does anyone remember the H&J Quicks garage on Wilmslow Rd, Handforth. Near the Belfry Hotel. Which was before Rinds the Jaguar dealer on the bend?
In the early 60's i remember a garage at the junction where the Post House Hotel is now in Northenden before the Princess Parkway\M56 is now i'm sure it was a Henley's garage?
Toyota dealer in Styal was F Grange and Son. Family own the Bridge in Prestbury, I think.

Jaguar dealer on Princess Parkway, was on site where Snow n Rock is now., and it was Heron, I think.

Hollingdrake Jaguar town Hall Square Stockport now Lamborghini Manchester

Ian Anthony DID have a showroom in knutsord, now knutsord wine bar; from memory, it only held two cars.

What about Colmore Depot?? Remember them in Stockport, but think they had other places. I bought a new passat for my Mum back in 79 - little rocket ship, until one of my staff wrote it off down Tatton Mile

Wow, that's a blast from the past. I remember my old man going to have a look at the 3 series in the eighties.

ETA - I've eaten there a few times, and wondered if it was the same building. Now I know!

Thinking about it overnight ( I know....) dealer on Preincess Parkway was probably Henly's, as it was land rover as well as Jaguar.
Heron owned Hollingdrake.

I heard that Ian Blenkinsop had died about 12/18 months ago. He moved to USA a while ago.......old school Motor Trade.....

Anyone recall S Davis in Altricham FIAT dealers and Mitsubishi before that.....
John Wallwork Volvo Altricham, Alderney Edge, Manchester and then expanded big time to Worcester and then went under

Gilbert Lawton Volkswagen in Sale
Dean Smith also Volvo, and then Citroen

Dutton Forshaw in Preston.

Used to deal Jaguar/Daimlers out of the place on the corner of Blackpool Rd and Pedders Lane. Then they moved the whole franchise in together and sold everything from Metros to Rolls/Bentley from a big custom built place on the corner of Corporation Street and Ringway. I remember collecting my Dads new Daimler Double Six which was upstairs (remember thinking how cool it was to drive that brand new car down the ramp and into the daylight for the first time) in 1988. We still own that car and she's still beautiful!

They then obviously had a decent offer for the land and joined in the regeneration of Preston docks where they still sold the full range including land rovers I think???

Went to see the XJ220 being unveiled at a big champagne do with Mum and Dad. No wonder I've turned into a petrol head!

They split up into Jaguar, Rover & Land Rover and the Rolls/Bentley went by the wayside. Great memories of some very cool metal over the years though!
