Yes it was, can't remember what though! It wasn't just Virginia Motors, was it?
It was called holland motors /jennings of southport and m&s ford , i worked for all three of them over a 9 yr period .I was getting the 'H' but kept getting stuck on Hattons who were the BL dealer - I think on the corner of Roe Lane and Hartwood Road. Google suggests there is a Spar there now.
Can anyone remember the garage that sold American cars (all kinds ranging from Corvettes, Buicks, Trans Am, trucks, Caddys and salloons). I can't remember exactly where this dealer was located nor the name of the place, but I think roughly somewhere around the Charnock Richard, Preston or Blackpool area. My dad often used to stop off at this place in the mid 90s. I'm aware the place is no longer there.
Here's a pic of said place (apologies for the terrible quality, screenshot from a home video in 1994):

Re American cars...Val Morton in Ashton Under Lyne in the 1960's.
There was also an American car dealer in Bardsley Brew, midway between Ashton and Oldham near "Smokies" around 1977/8, I nearly bought a Pontiac there once.
Who was the dealer used to sell American pick ups in Ashton, just by the side of the dual carriageway? There was also an American car dealer in Bardsley Brew, midway between Ashton and Oldham near "Smokies" around 1977/8, I nearly bought a Pontiac there once.

I passed today and part of the modern signage is missing next door to the Tesco Express and you can see part of the old BL signage behind it
Couldn't get a picture, sorry.
I remember Transound adverts in the Auto Mart / Auto Trader, I think. Got an old one somewhere, I'll have a look when I get a minute.
A recent old local paper find revealed a couple of local dealers that I don't think I'd ever heard of - JS Motors, an Opel dealer in Crewe, and Sutherland Motors in Rhyl and Llanfairfechan, listing a range of things:

Ron Hodgson has now left his Upholland premises. Sad to see.
I believe the showroom has been let again but as yet nothing has opened.
Is this right? I've been past recently and there were typical Ron Hodgson cars on the front.I believe the showroom has been let again but as yet nothing has opened.

Also Smokies.....that was our club!
Fascinating thread reading all of these great old names from the past.
One mentioned I actually worked in, A+B motors of Newton. I actually sold Nissan from the A+B site at Crompton street Wigan, now long gone and part of the giant Tesco complex.
Next place I worked in and loved it and I don't think it's been mentioned here was Bolton and Sons (Peugeot dealer) in Pilch lane Huyton, Liverpool (again long gone for houses). Used to be great having my pick of the trade ins in the plot behind and even got to drive the actual world championship winning 205 T16 we had borrowed for a show, happy days.
These small dealerships have vanished in much the same way the petrol forecourts have left us, in favour of multi nozzle huge forecourts. We must have lost 10 small filling stations and 4 dealerships within a mile of where I live lol
Oakmere (Christopher Neil) seem to have picked up the pieces from the "niche" marques business as these places have closed.
They sell New Caterham which Ryders Mazda in Bootle once did, they do the TVR's which Gorners did, they have the Morgan franchise too although Lifes motors in Southport still seem to trade on, and of course Lotus.
There was a Lotus dealers in Chester with another branch in Crewe that closed in the 80's, anyone remember the name, it's on the tip of my bloody tongue but just can't recall it?
