Old NW car dealers
Discussion
Not sure if posted (it might even have been me who did if so!) - apologies if so - but Perrys Vauxhall in Leyland is now a Tesco Express.

I believe its built near to/on the site of the former Station Garage / SGL Rover.
Google Maps dates suggests it closed between May 2018 and Sept 2021.
Any photos of the old SGL place? Imagine a BL dealer would have been busy in Leyland at some point in the past.

This was the Peugeot garage on Glodwick Road Oldham , it was firstly operated as "Sven Carlson" then later operated as PGC Peugeot Talbot . I think PGC was / is a Rochdale company . Bit of trivia is the building was originally "Watsons carpets" and after the car showroom & workshop closed it became a successful clothing manufactures . The building & business are still there .

That's a blast from the past. My Dad bought a new Peugeot 309 1.6 GL in Wedgwood Blue from Sven Carlson. I remember going with him to collect it. I can still here the creaky plastic dashboard.

Anyone remember Bluebird Engineering in Chester ?
They used to deal in Range Rovers (c 1980's), they specialised in converting new (export)3 door models into "Custom Vans" .
This was when the 5 door models were being offered by Land Rover - not sure if you could even buy a 3 door from a main dealer at the time.
They also carried out rebuilds on Rangeys, where customers could spec diesel engines and non standard paint etc.
They used to have a big advert in the Automart - always a really good place to visit.

This was my family's business. The Range Rover vans were only built by land rover for the export market. We bought them from deals abroad and had them converted to right-hand drive. The only difference between the Range Rover van and the standard Range Rover was the back window and they were supplied with the new car. Thd hole point of the van back then was tax and how much you got back if you were in business, so people used to put there "van" through there business for three years and then buy it out of there company for next to nothing. Most of the vans had there windows fitted before they left the garage.

We used to have a lot of orders back in the good old days for our Range Rovers. My father Richard Nesbitt didn't quite finish of his last 2 door nut bolt rebuild before he past away, but I'm getting there, thankfully I've still got a load of classic Range Rover stock. It's so lovely to see his name come up and his work wasn't forgotten xThey used to deal in Range Rovers (c 1980's), they specialised in converting new (export)3 door models into "Custom Vans" .

Lots of Blasts From The Past showing up on this thread!
I live just round the corner from Crosby Park these days. Until recently they still had pumps on a tiny forecourt. Probs till about 2018 or so. No way they'd pass modern regulations but suspect it was grandfather rights until the tanks needed replacing and thewn out they came. Remember lots of little places like that when I was a kid.
Remember Dad (worked for a big Motor Factors) being in & out of Balmforths in Ormskirk with a very problematic Triumph 2000TC, anyone remember Altcar Autos in Formby (just past where the Tesco is now)? They always reckoned Dad had one of the fastest 124 Special Ts in the Northwest thanks to how he'd run it in. He once got stopped on the M58 by Police wanting to know jsut what it was! (Looked like a standard Fiat/Lada box, went like stink, rusted even quicker).
Uncle had Beech Garage in Litherland. Was Jags, then Toyota and eventually Skoda. He loved them - didn't drive one hiumself mind! - as they had such a loyal fanbase who just kept coming back.
I was in & out of most body shops in Merseyside in the 70's & 80s with him, I'd give a lot to have a day doing all that again!
