Terrfic, really looking forward to it. Car will be mid prepped for LeJog so not quite sure how it'll perform.

Well I've been reading up on regularity control procedures and speed changes for the first half, nuts, the second half STC to the minute I'm ok with.

I might have a bit of a practice at some regularity on the way to the Cilwendeg on Sat.

Jez, you are the exception most people I've talked too are OK with the first half, baffled and worried by the second half. biggrin

In the first half I will give the same advice as I have to anybody who has asked, 'think about triangles'. Get the route right first worry about the timing second.

Looks like we could have a full entry soon too. 11 on the entry list, Andy Pullan is still deciding if he wants to come though as he has lots to do for the RoTT now (free ride with a top driver... not that I'm jealous or ought!!). The minimum number of marshaling teams should be met, but we would have scope for more if they arrived. Which means I can probably release the Mitchell B team to enter if they want.

Am really looking forward to this chaps. This is the car's final shakedown before LeJog so will be interesting to see how it runs.

Oh, also for IDMCers, there are actually 2 club crews in LeJog, hopefully see some of you at the Hawes test amongst others. Wonder if we'll be knocking off Buttertubs in the snow? Will be good to have at least a tiny bit of home advantage smile

Ian, I assume we'll need a rudder and oars to pass scrutineering on Wed eve? wink

I'll let you know when we get the handouts tomorrow, laugh but what I've plotted is straight forward enough.

Well it's all over now, it's amazing how much hard work is required to put on a relatively simple 50 mile 12 car, god knows what it's like doing a 150 mile 120 car event!.

The resident Pistonheads crew came in a creditable 6th and first novice, with 33.06 penalties, mainly missed route checks, more speed less haste guys, with the same pace and all the route checks you would have been second. None of the other novices stayed within OTL unfortunately, I perhaps pitched some of it too hard, it's very difficult to find a balance, given that;.....

...the winners were Hazel Pullan, with the hugely experience Nick Cooper, navigating on 10:45, 5.00 of which was a missed route check which had been uprooted by a passerby in the time between us passing it as course car and the first car arriving!. Nick also got a 2 minute early penalty (possibly incorrectly?) an excellent performance.

We will do it all again on the 20th November with another 12 car starting in Bailden, regs on the website. smile

Cheers for organising the event Ian, thumbup

I must admit I wasn't too sure if I was up to the job of getting us round on the night, having never done plot and bash on the move, but we got round without too many mistakes.
I'm a bit furious to have missed RCD, as having checked on street view, we turned round to go back down the lane to find it as we missed it on the way up right where it was, laugh

The marshals at NTC11 tried to book us in 2 mins early, giving us 21:18 not 20 as I asked for, but I wouldn't accept it and had to tell them where they were going wrong. We also met the Anglia coming back the other way looking for the missing code board but we decided not to go back as there was no way we'd missed it.

All in all a cracking night out and cheers to Ben for the ride, beer

I found sorting the Marshals was the most worrying job of the lot. I initially worked out we needed 6 teams. Henry sorted out 5 teams for me at the last meeting, then I realised we needed 7 so I sorted Nick and Mark, all of those were given detailed instructions on how to do timed to the minute properly (Though I still don't think they understand!). Then one team had to pull out and I also realised I had miscalculated and we needed 8, so we were two short by Tuesday!. I was thinking of making NTC4 self start and doing ST17 ourselves as we could do it running car 0.

On the night we seemed to have more marshals than we needed, yet a lot of them hadn't had the instructions and in the melee at the start I had no time to make sure they did.

I wanted to have a chat with each of them as we drove around, but there was just no time, especially after we ended up having to push the damned car when it died after a sudden stop!.

I also made the rather ridiculous error of leaving my maps in the pub, so I had to go on memory for the first half!.

Just to say that Darren and Sues performance in the second half was mega, they got all the boards (apart from the missing one) and just dropped 2 minutes, easily the best performance, they were fizzing when they reached us at ST17 (we stopped for a while to see who came through). biggrin
It's a pity they messed up the first half!.

Huge thanks to Ian and all the IDMC marshalls for putting together a terrific night of sport.

Jez (yorkshire pudding) and I had a hoot and I was mightily impressed with Jez's performance for a very first go. Beating 2 expert crews is no mean feat.

A number of things need sorting on the car now before its next competitive outing. Better to know now.

Roll on the next smile

Two more evening events coming up.
This Wednesday (13th) is an Economy run, just a bit of fun to see who can get closest to their cars theoretical economy figures over a 50 mile route.
Then on the 20th, the last round of the Skipton Trophy, another 12 Car, organised by Henry Carr and Alistair Tullie.

Details on the website. smile

Might not be a next time Jez... a certain person was whittering they didn't like 12 cars and was implying lots of others don't either.

There are moves to go for a full season of scatters instead, going to be a discussion on the IDMC forum and possibly FB about it soon.

Support required for real rallying..... wink

Well we are gearing up to do it all again this year.
There is another Training evening and a small practice scatter this coming Wednesday (15th Jan)
Extract from the website here

Emmott Arms, Rawdon (MR 104/215394).
Intention this year is to have a small practice scatter so bring map 104, a roamer and your pencils as this will be an opportunity to practice plotting and to ask questions.

Skipton Trophy this year will be five events again, 2 Scatters, 2 12 Cars and another one which could be either one or the other.

All welcome.

Bit of a catch up on this then. We have had the two Scatters in the first half of the Year they went very well and were enjoyed by all who entered. The plan is to start up again when the darker evenings close in, so we have two scatters in October and a 12 Car in November. To get people in to the swing of it we are planning a training evening in September which will concentrate on navigation for 12 Cars giving people some practice routes to plot a short ride out and then a general discussion which would be combined with the normal Noggin and Natter evening in a Pub somewhere.

Leaving the road events to one side, we have a couple of Car Trials coming up, one on the evening of the 16th July, then a Sunday one on the 27th July. Open to any Car these are meant to challenge your driving skills as you negotiate tight routes around a grassy hillside trying to get as far up as you can before slithering to a standstill.

On Sunday 13th July we have an Auto Solo at Askham Bryan College York, run in conjunction with the College themselves, who hopefully with have a few teams of Students out in cars they have prepared. Autosolos have been featured a bit on here now so I'm sure you know roughly what they entail. A good test of Car control and commitment and a brilliant introduction to club level motorsport.

Details on the Ilkley and District MC website. Google will find it for you. smile
