I'd suggest somewhere like Kennedy's - could book out the bit behind the bar; good food, good atmosphere, they won't care about how much noise we make, and it's actually open past 11! Gets my vote.

this looks like a good venue but what are peoples thoughts on a separate VIP style area or should we keep it with the hoi polloi?

If we keep behind the bar area there, then it's kind of separated off already... no reason for anyone else to wander round by the tables. Similarly, if you book the upstairs of the place, they generally don't let anyone up there for drinking till all the eating's done with.

Put me and Helen down again too. It has been too long since witnessing Al performing in an underground nightclub in Leeds

I don't know the place you're thinking about, if it's a bar/club venue my only request is that we're not sitting in the middle of a smoke filled bar when we're eating.

It's a bar (but in the adult, more continental sense, not the post-teen binge sense) but has a couple of benefits:
1. The area to the side of the bar is well out of the way, and I've seen them partition it off in the past when there've been private dos there (so they're both accomodating, and willing to do private bashes)
2. Tends not to attract too much chav scum (you might have to leave the pimp-ride at home, then ) - most people that go there are a bit older than townie places

PMSL

Kennedys seems to fit the bill. I'm going to book a hotel for the night - can people if they're interested in a room (their own, not with me!), I'll try to haggle for a group discount. I'm thinking something along the lines of a 3* Holiday Inn type hotel rather than a Hilton type. I see no point staying somewhere smart/expensive when I'll be too pished to appeciate it.

Bloody 'ell, I'd forgotten you were there Rich... where have you been all year?

And yep - can't bring Kennedy's to mind but if JS reckons it's a cool n trendy kinda shack then I'll trust his judgement ... mind you, about that club last year James?

yep, put me down for a room in a cheap Travel Log kind of place. Never know, Vicki may decide she could do with a night out in York talking about cars all night

We were in the heart of Yorkshire on a weekend, and I found us a club guaranteed to be devoid of hardcore gabba, Burberry clad chav-monkeys, and that would let us all in given the state we were in, and you STILL complain. Geeze, man, can't wait to see how much complain about having to slum it in 4 and 5 star continental hotels on Eurohoon!

Kennedy's is on the same street as Oscar's, just down the road from it, if that helps. (probably not)

(Double) room for me too, please Jo. Was considering phoning up the Uni and seeing if we can get a load of their Holiday-inn style rooms for a discount, but they're not that cheap any more. Not sure how expensive that new Travel-inn or whatever place is by Clifford's Tower, but it's conveniently located...

I have a spare room with double bed if anyone wants a bed within staggering distance without resorting to hotel. (they will have to share it with axle stands/tool kit/spare oil etc).

I can wholeheartedly recommend the seahorse hotel for the accomodation, it is the only place I ever stay when in york...make that 8 times now! there is a link to it on the previously posted link to kennedys.

edit: and here it is!

er, Jo, any chance of putting me back ON the list as Dr Bert seems to have conveniently taken me off when he added his name!

And I believe I requested a double too

If I'm allowed by the good Doctor that is
