Just had a quick look on RM, so semi-detached bungalows just round the corner are circa £200-225k. That was what I was thinking of. Wow, more than double for a detached.
You really can’t compare the semi in Ramsey Avenue. It’s half the size and nowhere near as good outside space. At the end of the day, it is what it is.northernmedia said:

Add a second story extension and you'll be quids in! It's now STC - you?

Just stumbled across the thread.
I do believe you've hit the sweet spot. Well done.
Bishopthorpe offers a village location without any through traffic, good road links and whilst not quite walking distance into York, jump on bicycle and you're there in 10 minutes.
Great location, enjoy.

Cheers Pedro - that’s exactly how we feel!I do believe you've hit the sweet spot. Well done.

I live in Copmanthorpe. Been here nearly 4 years. Not the most picturesque village centre but has absolutely everything you could need. Pub, coop, barbers, post office, indian, cafes etc. You can walk for miles if you head west out of the village towards Colton, lots of footpaths and bridleways. A64 access is great. Cycle routes into and around York start from the village, and the P&R is just up the road. Also not too much new housing planned for the village unlike many other areas around York.
You might want to check on your choice of schools, friends who have kids going into middle/secondary state schools in the area say they are very oversubscribed and even siblings can’t always get in now. I wouldn’t make assumptions its a guarantee to get any of the decent ones.
Askham Bryan is all very nice but not a lot of houses, and very expensive for the name, there isn’t much there. Never understood the fuss.
Bilborough would be another option if you can live without being able to walk to the shops.
Bolton Percy is ok but you are a drive to get anywhere. Appleton Roebuck is bigger and slightly better positioned.
Escrick, no. The A19 junction (and tailbacks on the A64) at rush hour, on weekends or during the Christmas season are bad due to the retail outlet (bonkers why anyone would queue for hours on a dual carriageway to get to an already full shopping centre?). The new Germany Beck development seems to have made things worse. We have friends over that way and it impacts their ability to get about.
Happy to help!

Thanks for all the tips here, as this thread popped up when I googled a certain area of York.
We're over in North Leeds but pop in to York regularly as well as Naburn (where I'm learning to sail - brilliant fun), and have started scanning around at what's available. Might take a while but I feel a draw to the area!
