Afternoon all,

Possibly a bit of a long shot but i'm hopeful somebody may recall...

I'm trying to track down the name/location of a curry restaurant located by the side of a motorway or A-road that had a statue of an elephant outside - this is going back ten years, although i'm sure I've passed it since?

All I can add is that it's also near a PremierInn hotel (a 10 minute walk down the side of the carriageway!) and I believe it's near the Yorkshire area or possibly towards Manchester?

For those wondering, I visited this restaurant with a team I once worked with, it was a memorable night and a highlight of our time together. I've been contacted with the sad news our boss from this team has a matter of weeks left to live due to an illness, I wish to write him a letter to thank him and make mention to this particular occasion.

Thank you for your assistance with this.

I thought I remembered the Aagrah in Garforth or York / A64 having one, but looking at Street View it seems not!

You are correct, although it’s not been there for some years now.

Thank you all - Aagrah Tadcaster on the A64 is the winner!

It looks like the elephant has been relocated to the Mid-Point Bradford - good find.

In a completely random twist of fate, I actually passed the old-site on my way to a conference yesterday, 'my colleague' managed to capture a quick picture...

Thank you all for your assistance, i'm very grateful.

The Aagrah elephant (she is called Lulu) was moved between many of the chains restaurants and even to some private parties over the years. Its got to be over 20 years old.

It was at the garforth branch for sometime in the 90's (i remember an ill advised climbing attempt hehe) and has been transported to a few branches with room to have it outside. Last i heard was that it was damaged in transit so wasn't going to be moved anymore.

EDIT:
Regarding LULU the elephant - "She was a familiar and much-loved sight at Bradford Festivals after she was commissioned in 1992, and even made a star appearance at the Indian Film Awards held at the Millennium Dome in 2000,"
So...Shes 28 years old.

Is it outside the Ilkley Burley curry house?

We live 5 minutes from the A64 Aagrah, the elephant was there regularly around 10-15 years ago and used to get moved around to their various restaurants. Not seen it for a few years.
We've eaten there occasionally for many years, still like the food but it's pretty quiet during the week.

Was that property once a pub called The Green Man?

I didn't think it was. Different owners.

I tried it when it opened and was not impressed. Will have to try it again.

It was called The Wild Man, when I lived in Brid it was our regular Saturday lunch stop on the way to watch Leeds United. I believe it closed after the food hygiene police did a spot check and a court case resulted in it closing.
