Hi,

My son is in his first year at Sheffield and starting to get a bit worried about accommodation sorted for the second year.

The student accommodation scene looks a lot more professional than my recollections but I'm sure the same traps still exist.

Have anyone got any pointers for Sheffield for him?

Many thanks,

Phil

Sure. I assume Univ. Sheffield from what you've said, so in general terms:

- City centre for flats for all budgets.
- Broomhill, Crookes, Walkley for house shares in order of decreasing cost.
- UoS has an third party accommodation search system here https://www.smartmovesheffield.com/Accommodation

If he wants to be with all his mates from halls ('Residences'), he needs to be looking now for a larger house >5 rooms in Broomhill or Crookesmoor (both popular for convenience). If he just wants to rent himself a studio/room and isn't bothered about being in town or 'up the hill' then there is loads of choice and less rush.

There's a long established landlord checking service in Sheffield run by the University (see above link) so I rarely hear of any properly rogue landlords.
