Doing skidz

I have an old MX5 with an LSD and wouldn't mind finding out the safe limits, some car control and fun.
Are there any skidpan or car control places in Yorks, or if not further afield?

And no don't tell me to go to Tescos carpark

Interesting question. Just about to get an LSD fitted to my Cayman and fancy similar to get a good feel for it ... Not aware of anywhere but hopefully someone does?

The Tocky skid pan is an option but just be careful if you do go there, the surface is oiled up, great for rustproofing not so good until your tyres clean up afterwards!! Not sure if they are OK with you using your own car on it though. It was a test on a Targa a few years ago.

If you don't mind travelling a bit Teesside circuit do drift days or there is a low surface grip circuit at Oulton park. (they call it the drift/rally track at Oulton IIRC) No problem using your own car at either.

Or join a local Motorclub and do an autotest or two, or Formula MX5 as it looks like at some events!!.

North Humberside MC do an event every month and so do York motorclub.

Thanks for the ideas, i'll look into them.
I did Tockwith a long time ago - in the 90s Back then it was in a Ford Escort. It's a bit dull as it's just an oily ring, but no doubt still good for starting to learn on.

Oulton Park on their low grip concrete track is decent and around 1 hour 45 away from Leeds. I did my first one in August of this year and its good for low speed low consequence sliding. if you want to practice holding powerslides or relatively low speed drifting then its good. There was a mixture of drift cars, bone stock mx5, z4 and even a golf r! Teesside autodrome is from what I understand much more about drifting, no skid pan/low grip surfaces there. I am new to the driving part of that sport after taking photos or spectating so will be trying Teesside soon in my e36.

3 sisters in Wigan is near enough has regular drift days, small track but big enough for skids!

Porsche’s Experience Centre at Silverstone has a low friction pad and a short series of low friction corners.

You can pay to take your own car there (doesn’t have to be a Porsche). It ain’t cheap (because Porsche), and I believe you have to be accompanied as the sessions are ‘driving training’ rather than ‘hoon around for an hour’.
