Update: Went for a flat in Shipley in the end. Bit characterless but it serves a purpose.
There are worse places.

Get down to Saltaire - Edward St Bakery and Salts Mill
Train out to Ilkley - walk up to White Wells and something from Bettys. 39 The Grove is very good for lunch.
The Wheatley at Ben Rhydding is nice for lunch or dinner
Or drive out for a walk by the reservoirs above Otley and then fish and chips in Otley and sit by the river.

Don't even have to go into Bradford.

If OP is in Shipley then the Aagrah is pretty close (in Shipley).

Has it improved? I was underwhelmed when I last went (pre-pandemic)

I don't know to be honest - I just remembered it as having a good reputation some time back.

It's sad to think it's gone down if that's the case.

My favourite is Nawaab, though it's not in the centre of Bradford anymore. Their "Nirali Special" dish is rather lovely.

I can also recommend Kiplings in Greengates, which isn't far from Shipley (just down Leeds Road).

We'd had a few Curries from there in recent times (take out due to Covid) but superb curries they are too!

Bhajis'n'Beer in Greengates as well - a bit different to the norm. Love Kiplings as well though.

In Shipley I'd go BYOB at Shimla Spice thumbup

I was born in Bradford and lived there until 1983 when my father gain promotion and we moved to Bedford. I was 11 years old.
We lived off Howarth Road in Heaton. My father informed us this was a nice area. My memories are happy. I’ve never been back. Is it now considered a rough area ?

3rded for Kippings. Although I haven't been for a few years as we moved away, I'm told it is still as good as it ever was.
It was my favourite curry when I lived up there. We went there so often the wife and I were on first name terms with the staff.

A much underrated place was the Khyber in Idle village. Their Dansak is still the best Dansak I've ever eaten.
