I think I spoke too soon..

Complete lack of any signs of life when I tried to open the car with the alarm blipper, hop into the car having unlocked it and she's dead az the proverbial. No power whatsoever.

Someone did try to break into the car at the train station last week, popped open the bonnet (I very much doubt I'd have driven it to the station with the bonnet unclasped) and managed to set off the alarm, which ran all day and drained the battery. Once bump started its been fine, but has had a lot of long runs and not been left to sit for more than 6 hours without use so the battery ought to be ok..

Gits must have managed to do something to it afterall..

Oh, and despite parking the car directly in line of a CCTV camera, no one saw anything and they don't seem to have the video.

On the positive side, there are a few little jobs I need to do which I've now got the chance to do while I figure out what to do about the alarm etc..

I had similar trouble with the Tuscan battery, dead, fully charged, ran perfectly then died completely.

I'm guessing you're also 'working' from home today. If you're not, and you need a jump start or anything let me know, I'm only upt'road.

Yup, WFH today. Haven't just spent the last half hour under the bonnet to find the pin switch that's connected to the alram has been broken off..

Thanks for the offer of the jump start. Hopefully won't need to take you up on the offer of that next week when I'm forced to put in another appearance in the office..

The bad news is that they spotted that 4 new CV boots were required. I think they said 4 hrs labour plus parts & not covered by warranty. Should bump up the price of my imminent service.

Could you not do it yourself - it's only going to be a few quid for the gaiters?

Woohoo! Car sorted... turned out it was all down to the dodgy battery fitters. The cable from the battery was resting against the exhaust manifold, burning a hole in it, and shorting it out causing the Gremlins. After a couple of hours of Joolz's time last night, it's purring like a (very noisy) kitten again.

Hmm, bit ambitious for me I think? My technical experience so far has been limited to changing the odd punctured tyre & replacing a some worn fuel hoses on a Spitfire years ago!

Does anything need dismantling or is it just a case of removing the wheel, then replacing the gaitor? I'm about to fit the mod-wise boot opening kit I got for Chrimbo so if I manage to do that without shafting the electrics, I could give it a go.

Reet-o Newcastle beckons...

No idea on the Chim. Given the usual estimates of several hours labour, I'm guessing there's a fair bit of mechanical pulling apart involved, but I can't see it being too complicated - just lots of dismantling & reassembling? Does the Bible not say?

this could beat the lot picked this up at the TVRCC forum (Poor Chap)

Hoping for some sympathy here....Bought my 4.0L chimaera 2 years ago 13k on the clock...and used it every day adding 40k miles. It never leaked, overheated, broke down and I loved it (past tense). Couple of Sundays ago some git stole it and burnt it out. It's completely destroyed...no glass, doors, seats, rear panels, boot..all gone into a blackened charred mass. Insurance company progressing claim (too slowly of course) and I'm pulling a hat over my face when I drive my 1.7 diesel corsa (in maroon).
If anyone knows any suitable torture techniques......MIKEB

:sigh: No car today

Other news of the day its that the whole clutch and flywheel are being replaced. They can't get hold of an inner release bearing so my car is still in bits. Bugger!

Oh and deepest joy, I probably need to replace all four tyres! Before anyone questions the dealers integrity, they have 'advised' me to do this as sooner rather than later. They also commented that I may wish to 'shop around'. What I'm trying to say is I'm sure they're not trying to make money for the sake of it! (Anyone got any recommendations - I need Toyo's)

Oh and the good news, one of the roll bar links was broken, but they've fixed that.

It's a gorgeous day, I want to be out :stamping feet:

Jo
Try the mytyres website. I'm sure somebody after me will put a link.

Prices are the cheapest I've found and they will deliver to a garage of your choice or your house, whatever takes your fancy.

If I remember right, Joolz uses them aswell.

As Andy says, www.mytyres.net, or www.4newtyres.co.uk.

Looks like I spoke too soon about the car being fixed - sidelights packed in last night whilst taking someone out for a drive in it.

Thanks Andy, My Tyres

Erm anyone know what tyres I need, the manual and car are both in Wigan. I know they're 18 inch but after that I'm stuck.

Mrs F with Adamski later, but unlikely.

Found the tyre sizes, 235/40/18 Front and 245/40/18 Rear. Assuming I have Toyo Proxes again :-

Black Circles - £154.35/£166.78 each
£642.26 Inc fitting.
TVR Dealer - £141.00/£161.00
£604.00 Inc fitting.
My Tyres - £111.40/£125.40.
£473.60 Exc fitting.

The question is, how much will fitting and balancing cost? Something tells me it should be less than £130.00?

Thoughts and recommendations anyone?

Usually about a fiver a corner Jo from Charlies or Kwik Fit - if you don't want to take it there then I don't know.

Sorry to hear about the hassles, I feel quite glad mine was tucked up in it's garage last weekend.

Having said that, it's down in the car park right now, roof off, sat bang next to Paul's new Cerbera It's what Fridays are for
