Yes. And it's the motorhome people that don't seem to be providing any benefit to the locals.

They buy all their supplies in Tescos in Inverness and dawdle around and clog up the roads with the big signs saying "road not fit for motor homes".

If you want to dawdle around, gawping at every single thing go in a car. Eat locally. Stay in local accommodation. Pull over and let people pass. In both directions. Let the bin men through - you'll be amazed how quickly they hustle that thing around. Even more so the postie.

Just a thought. smile
+1 except by all their supplies in France, Belgium, Italy, Germany etc
And don't these motorhomes have rear view mirrors?

Highlands No 5 in the world on Lonely Planet list, and did you know there is a NE250 and Snow Roads to add to the SWC300...

Any roads left to give labels too? Nobody suggest it to Argyll and Bute please, it’s still fairly quiet there.

I heard on the radio this evening that the a832 is closed due to a land slip between dundonnell and braemore.

Hiya, no I’m not there now smile

Have holidayed in the area around Loch Fyne 3 times in the last few years and really liked it, although out of season to be fair.

Just a heads up. The Applecross Inn will be closed for a couple of weeks in November for a refurb. No dates yet, but I'll add when I know.

Been keeping an eye on this thread, thanks for the continual updates Carter...really useful. We came back in 2017, and now just booked up some accommodation for the end of June next year, lots of places booked up already, looking forward to it already. smile

smile It really would be a tragedy if me or anyone in my group ended up on this! I'd like to think we're a good bunch, especially now that we've experienced it previously...we just learned to be patient out there last time and we only saw the occasional caravan with the deck chairs out in a passing place! :P ...must be tearing your hair out as locals seeing this.

Some of the tourists do beggar belief up there, and it's not just the foreign one. Some of the English are just as bad. It's like they have all left their brains and whatever little skill they had at home. It's just plane dangerous.

Varies from year to year. Generally passable even in the snow, as long as you are behind the snow plough... but occasionally Applecross only accessible via the coast road. (Earlier this year). Never known Applecross to be totally snowed in (been here 20 years).

Check this out from Feb:

Thanks Steve, few of us are heading in this direction and deciding on what’s best to use this time of year supercars or sportscars.

Can I quiz the hive mind? I'm popping over to Torridon for Christmas, and wondering whether it's a waste of time bringing the mountain bike. Is it always snowy in the glens and lower passes?

Torridon itself is at sea level so plenty of riding around there even if high roads are snowy or more likely wet and slippy. It's not like the Alps where everything is white all winter. Unless there is a cold snap should be fun, but bring your thermals.
