We didn’t have any issues with traffic on single track roads what so ever, in fact it was extremely quiet

Indeed. ... and I can see by the angle of the sun as you drove down Glen Torridon that you did it at the right time.

Try that next Sunday at 1 p.m.!

Hi Ste, we set off at 06:00 from Aviemore and arrived in Applecross Bealach na Ba around 09:00 with a few stops in between. If we would have left it any later it would have been chaotic, best to leave early. By the way we was the only cars on the summit of bealach no ba, best weekend ever!!

I’m up here at the moment, adding to the camper van traffic (VW). However I’ve been coming long before it became fashionable! 😀

This is our first time here in the van. Usually I’d B&B, but the van works better with the little one.

We were at Applecross yesterday and up in Clachtoll today and probably tomorrow. I’ve always loved it here right from when I first saw Steve’s pictures of the area. (So it’s his fault really!)

This time, the traffic has really become apparent. Sat for twenty minutes yesterday South of Shieldaig as someone had stopped in the road and left their car to take a picture of a cow.... Also, the number of campers just stopping at the side of the road for the night is not really on. I’m sure something will be done about that before too long.

North of Ullapool was very quiet yesterday, I think most of the tourists do Applecross, Torridon and then head back South.

We’re seeing similar experiences is Northumberland with the tourism. The area needs money to thrive, but the more tourists come, the more North England loses it’s identity. A tough call really.

I was also in Applecross yesterday, the next time i go out that way, will be out of season, even on the motorbike going was very slow, people park anywhere to take a photo no consideration for other road users.

We all know about how some have no idea how to drive on single track roads... but this year I'm noticing more and more a two lane problem. Motorhomes who drive in the middle of the road - slowly. The only way to get past them is to bully (lights / and if ignored horn), which I hate doing.

I could give you LOTS of frames from my dash cam... but this one kinda' shows what I mean. (He knows it's two way traffic as he moves to the left to avoid head ons!)

Oh... and of course, a load of this:

Not had the fortune of doing the roads yet but is there any scope for the authorities to build suitable off-road viewing points to keep the vehicles from stopping at side of road? Or would they just fill up with overnight campers?

There are plenty of viewing points, but in this part of the NW Highlands, as you round every corner there is a stunning view, and as you can see here, on roads like this, nowhere to put a viewing point:

That would need investment from the local cooncil, who would turn it into a major infrastructure project. Can you imagine the meetings, probably a public enquiry.
