I am writing on behalf of my daughter who is planning a Final Major Project for her Media course at college.
She is required to make a documentary on a subject of her choice. She has decided to make a programme based on her grandfathers involvement with the SMT Racing Team both as a history piece but also to highlight the effects of dementia as he has been suffering for a few years but can still recall in detail his trips to Ingliston so she wants to make this utilising his memories, photos and any footage we can find

We are looking for anyone who has footage of the SMT racing car, driven by Bill Dryden between 1970 - 1979 and would be willing to let us have a copy

If you are able to help we would be obliged
Many thanks in advance

Hi Mike

I actually know Bill although I’ve not seen him for a good few years. Sadly I have no footage myself. It would be worth putting this request in the Scotland forum too and also asking on the Tartan Tarmac Facebook page.

Seen this very same request in the Tartan Tarmac Facebook page and there is an and full out of activity there. Seems a few people might have footage? Some photos posted too. Looks like one of the cars is currently being restored?

I attended many meetings at Ingliston with my Dad between 1973 and 1976 and remember Bill Dryden’s often epic battles with Doug Niven, Walter Robertson and many others in Special Saloons.

I don’t have any cine/film footage but I stilll have a number of race programmes from that era as well as a few meetings from later in the 70s/early 80s

I’ve met Doug Niven a few times in recent years and it may be worth contacting him to see if he is happy to share his memories/stories from that time.

Thanks for the messages offering photos following my request yesterday - much appreciated.
If anyone has any further details of the car being restored I'd be grateful

I am Friends with Oly Mortimer who does some racing at KH. His dad Glen used to race at Ingliston as has a lot of old footage and may have been able to help. If you search for Oly on facebook I am sure he will be able to ask his dad.

Anyone remember Ian Stuart? He marshalled the start line for many a year 70'2/80's.

He was my neighbour down here in Longniddry, sadly passed away last September.

Good luck with the project.

I have a DVD of cine footage taken by my uncle in the 70’s, also have some very old programmes one of which is signed by Bill Dryden.

Happy to help if I can.

On a footnote I know Bill’s son, as far as he’s aware the Firenza his dad raced is in the States - whereabouts unknown.
