Bit of a long shot here but relocation dictates that I'm looking for a garage / storage to rent around Haddington, Dunbar, North Berwick area ideally secure and dry and with sufficient space to store and work on a car plus space for tools etc. Some space on a farm would be ideal and it's something I'm looking in to however on the off chance that anybody knows of anything, it'd be very much appreciated.

Thanks

There’s a few buildings around Seacliff Estate that might suit you, you’d need to go looking for one of the Dales and ask them.

Gerry at Fenton Barnes garage might be able to help point you in the right direction. He has a couple of units around the area. Fenton Barnes also has plenty units but I’m not sure what’s available these days.

Allegedly the council are going to be building some units in Haddington but that’s just hearsay at the moment.

You could try the Wemyss estate sure they have an office at Aberlady they have lots of little farm building over east Lothian.

I rent a shipping container in Tranent not sure if he has any space just now and if it will be big enough.

Thanks very much gents

Have asked a couple of chaps I know down that direction too so have a few leads to go on so will pop down this weekend and have a bit of a run round and hopefully will be able to secure something. I'm hoping I'll be able to find something within a couple of miles of the house, perhaps a friendly farmer will be willing to let me rent a corner of a shed temporarily but if not then yes, will check out some of those suggestions.

The longer term plan is to build a garage / workshop on the grounds so this would just be temporary storage so on that note, I did have a look at Car Storage Scotland but at £120 a month it's quite pricey for what I need... I'm sure it's a great service but the alternative would be to rent a council lock up near my folks place in Fife and leave it there, not ideal but it's an option.

Appreciate the input, struggling for local knowledge being an immigrant to the area so that's very helpful of you both.

Thanks

Unfortunately no such luck yet and as per my post in "Homes and DIY" the intention to build a garage on the plot has run up against some issues, so now exploring the possibility of a temporary structure... eg a timber build kit or even steel as a stop gap but also still putting feelers out for some sort of farm space / workshop / storage but thus far, a bit fruitless. My wife is down there today, has friends in Gifford (I think!) and is asking around but it's my lack of local knowledge that is thwarting matters and as yet, haven't had a chance to go down and have a run round some of the suggestions but have sent off a few emails so fingers crossed. Anything either side of the A1 would be ideal, Haddington to Dunbar sort of range.

You could try in at the old ideal garage in Haddington, Colin McClukie is in there just now and it’s ear marked for development but it’s a big site so there’s plenty room. Access might be the only issue as it’s he only works Monday to Friday I think, worth a shot though.

Much appreciated, will stop past and ask the question next time I'm down. I'm sure I'll find something, ideally a small shed / space on a farm locally or similar as I'd rather keep costs and indeed distance to a minimum. I'll also need to try and find a decent local mechanic, somebody who can do punctures and such like without charging a fortune to save trips back over the bridge to my usual man.
