Prestwick has the only decent length runway in Scotland I think - when we (work) get big stuff air freighted in from other parts of the world it typically lands in Prestwick and is then driven North.

Still has something to do with the American Air Force there I heard, too.

2nd longest after Machrihanish. About 1000ft longer than Glasgow's.

Cheers for the replies all....can't wait to get moved, and will give you a shout when I get settled, probably end of September. Have a few interesting cars to bring out for a run, so a meet up in Ayr would be brilliant.

See you then

Well, we have finally moved up here, since Monday at least. It would be good to meet up with like minded car enthusiasts. I'm not far from Maybole and loving the deserted roads of the Galloway forest park already.

Welcome. Hope you love it as much as we do. If you need any tradesmen (plasterers, roofers, electricians etc), happy to help...we had terrible problems getting people to start with but got a list of reliable and helpful people now.

Yeah the Galloway Forest is on cycling and motorbike routes so only take the roads as empty where you can see. Very easy to meet either on a blind bend...or indeed a logging lorry. wink

Welcome to South Ayrshire!

Will give you a shout when I'm next home! Did you buy an older place as a do-er upper or you moved in a sorted house and job jobbed?

How are you finding the traffic, or the lack of it? smile

We made this move 2 years ago now from Lincolnshire to a little place about a mile from Dailly, great views over the Water of Girvan.
The weather took a little getting used to. But great countryside and walks made up for it.

Well it's apparently been the wettest winter in the 20 years the guy who helps with our garden has been working, so he told me. But we still love it; wouldn't live anywhere else to be honest. Best place to be since the lockdown.

It certainly is, apart from not working, have spent most of the time in the garden or taking the dogs out. Can't really complain.

Good to know. Can't really commit to regular meetings due to health but handy to know when the shows are. Always enjoyed getting out with my camera for shows before our move.
