Apologies for another best bodyshop request.
I had a minor off with my Mustang and I’m looking for the latest recommendations.
I was thinking about Kinghorn in Blackburn but I’ve not heard any reports lately.
I’m a fussy git and it’s going through the insurance so I’m looking for the best.
Any info would be great, thanks.

I just got my Touraeg unbent at Dentec in Westhill.
Great job. nice service. It was through insurance, so no idea of cost, but they are authorised by a number of manufacturers according to the plaques on the wall.

I've had recent / decent experience with Paint Technic.

Another Dentec recommendation.

After a recent deer incident they fixed up my 640d very well.

When I went to pick it up they asked if I would mind waiting as there was building work going on (I think for the news Don's place) and the car was slightly dusty and they would give it another wash.

It looked cleaner than the day I picked it up from the dealership so I told them it was fine.

They would appear to be quite keen to offer a great service.

I've recently had some paintowrk done by Kinghorn. I'm extremely fussy and am pleased with their work. On a car that's a hard colour to match, the blend is pretty perfect. They aren't cheap, however.

On the other car I've had paint done by paint technic. For a daily driver that is used as a tool for work and mountain biking trips, the job was fine. I wouldn't let them paint the Cayman though.

I'm hoping to find a good local paintshop that's a bit cheaper than Kinghorn, but have never got a definitive answer yet. There is a place by Stonehaven, SB Bodytech, which a local place selling very high end cars are using - I have wondered if they are worth a look, but it would be nice to see some of their work first.

The problem with painshop recommendations is that people are often happy if they get their car back looking like it's all about the same colour and hasn't got dents. I'm rather more picky as unfortunately I got into a bit of detailing which then means you can never look at car paint the same ever again...

Thanks far all the suggestions gents. It's very hard to find somebody good if you are looking for a job that's above the "close enough" standard.
I was very badly bitten by a full respay on an M5 a few years ago which cost a fortune and was carried out by a place with a good reputation but ended up looking worse than when it went in with rust appearing all over the place a couple of months later, where it wasn't even before!
It's looking like I will go with Kinghorn, hopefully the insurance will accept them.
Thanks again.

Kinghorn are excellent, but not the cheapest. I would recommend them.

Owner is a petrolhead. They're the approved repairer for JLR, Porsche etc. I can see their building from my desk, and you should see some of the machinery that passes through. If they're good enough for Ferrari, Lambo, Range Rover, 911s etc, they're good enough for my shed! smile

Chris dealt with my Cayenne / deer interface incident splendidly. Courtesy Corsa for a few days, good communication, and kept costs down where they could with some lateral thinking. Generally as helpful as possibly.

Your insurance has to accept them, it's your car. I'd the same when my Cayenne got vandalised, the insurance wanted to put it to their approved repairer. I just said it was going to Kinghorn as it was still in warranty and if they didn't want to pay to repair cars properly using the marque approved repairer then they shouldn't take my money.
They didn't argue, just said they couldn't guarantee the repair or some other bks.

That's good to know, it's still under warranty too. Cheers.

Paint Technic are awful. Some of their work I've seen is beyond embarrassing.

I've had good and bad repairs by Kinghorn. They did repair their repair to a high standard, but it shouldn't have left the bodyshop like it had the first time.

Can't really argue against the expensive bit. They are pricey.

I've used Kinghorn in the past without issue.

However

Just collected the Mrs C-Class (via Aberdeen Mercedes) after getting a small lacquer issue rectified and the finish was nothing short of shocking.
See how it comes back after a 2nd attempt.

As above i had a poor job slip through. They were apologetic and admitted it should never have happened.

It came back excellent on the second attempt like other work they had done for me.

I think they are too busy and rushing through work.

Well, I hope I don't experience the same issue.
It's been assessed and they are just waiting to hear back from the insurance, I'll give them a call through the week.

That’s assuming Merc actually used them and didn’t just get it quickly smart repaired...

It's not like Arnold to do something on the cheap is it? laugh

I'd never buy another Mercedes due to AC having all the Merc dealers nearby.

I'm a bit late updating this but I thought someone might find my feedback useful.
I was very happy with the service, they dealt directly with the insuarance company and it all went very smoothly.
They even contacted Spotless Detailing in Perth where I had it ceramic coated from new, to arrange another application for me, all under the insurance.
I also got 4x new Pilot Sports as they said they there were a couple of smalll cuts in 2x of the sidewalls. I'm chuffed with that as I would have been needing tyres soon anyway.
Paint finish is 99%, I can tell it's been painted but I'm a fussy git and it's as good as can be expected really from anywhere as far as I am concerned, certainly the best job I have seen in a long, long time.
It will only get better once it has been corrected and coated.
Overall, very happy and would highly recommend. smile
