No discussion of particular parties necessary, just curious about what actually drives our decision making processes at the polls.

Imho politics is fked as the MP's have almost all come across as cheating lying bds + not to be trusted; if there is no obligation to deliver manifesto policies + it seems they can do what they like once voted in then it is kind of pointless to vote yet if you don't vote that also seems pointless too frown if only we had a "none of the above" option.

I would like to have had option 3 as "will do the best for the country even if it may not be best for me/my family" but it wouldn't fit on the line. Not sure if that's how people are reading it but if they are there are a lot of selfless voters out there.

That's how I read it. I don't think it's selfless. It simply makes way more sense to me to get the system right and work within it, rather than getting it right for me, and just hoping that system works on a massive scale. It probably doesn't, and that probably leads to a worse outcome for me than the other method.

... is standing for a Party whose policies I support.

The individual is pretty much irrelevant.
