Mouse Mat Revival Question

I have several mouse mats where the rubber base has become too slippery to continue using them

Most are custom printed which car pics, obviously

How can I refresh the rubber base so it stops sliding around on the desk?

Can I put them in a gentle wash, perhaps with some rags or towels, or would that destroy the print?

Machine wash at 20C gentle settings

Not only has the rubber been refreshed so the mats no longer slide around, but the picture side is clean and bright

It even worked with this mouse mat that is nearly 20 years old
