Thanks for sharing, this is my commute so it's good to know.

I'm more focused on mpg than mph these days though...

I bet this decision was based on nothing at all safety wise.
Is there some sort of accident data available, or was it done simply to "get those speeders" ?

Done to keep the traffic flowing apparently and to catch speeders. I counted 5 pairs of cameras from Halbeath to Newbridge.

Let's hope they have appropriate speed limits at all times - far too often I've driven there and it's a 40 or 50 when the road is empty!

Makes me want to have velcro attached plates to be honest.

Government over reach into folks lives is getting beyond scary.

If folks think the social points system in China is oppressive, it certainly won't be that long before it is adopted in the West as a form of greater control.

How is it that the SECOND anyone gets into power they are basically rubbing their sweaty hands with glee at the prospect of exercising even more control over the populous?

Sorry for reigniting this one. Yesterday, I went through the camera northbound at Kirkliston with the limit set at 40. I was a bit above that, no excuses. However there wasn’t a flash at all. Are these cameras on all the time? They are meant to be operational now for 2 months but I haven’t heard of anyone falling foul of them. Wishful thinking ?

They probably gave a decent margin of error. Its probably 10%+2/3mph for what ever the limit is so at 40mph it would be set to 46/47mph.

I wouldnt fancy risking much past 45mph though.

I saw one flash on the northbound carriageway yesterday heading south at c 1.30pm, so I assume they are on all the time.

I got done a few weeks ago by the one at Kirkliston whilst was doing 81 in a 70, so that'll be three points and £100 fine.

I'm guessing the speed awareness courses which were supported as being a good idea by our government about 6 years ago now still aren't a thing up here...

Bit of a farce this evening...

Came back over from East Lothian about 2hrs ago. Matrix signs on the bypass warning of congestion at Scotstoun. Rounded the bend on to spur and the variable speedwas down to 50 then at Dakota, down to 40. Must have counted at least three other cars in sight but hey ho, crawled along to just prior to the South Queensferry splip and it was back to 50 then national speed limit at the start of the bridge. Roads almost empty.

Is this a ploy to frustrate drivers and thus many would be tempted to head through the congestion and indeed traffic free sections at a higher speed and then get nabbed for their troubles?

I think those operating the variable speeds signs need to get there act together.Recently came up M5/M6/M74 and speeds signs on for no obvious reason in light traffic then at birmingham 60 60 60 50 60 caused a lot of late braking

I had the same around a month ago one Friday night at 10pm on approach to the Queensferry crossing signs set at 40mph then next set at 30mph no cars except me then once on the bridge National speed limit signs on. Made no sense as no Road works being set up of dismantled or breakdowns just a clear road.

Looking for abit of advice…..

On the 29th of September half 1 in the morning I was travelling on the m90 between Dakota and newbridge there was speed limits on the gantry’s.

First was 40mph which I done
Second was 30mph which I done
Third was 20mph which I went through at 30mph because some idiot behind me was up me rear and never had enough space and time to brake. And I was driving a heavily loaded vehicle. The camera did flash.

Would I be looking at a fine and points? And if so would it be worth appealing against as to be fair in my eyes I would have caused an accident.

I you get a fine. Its your fault. You were the lead car its up to you to dictate how you drive not a person in another car. 'Sorry officer I was being tailgaited' will not hold up in a court.

Absolutely totally agree, however am thinking of my safety and the road workers safety. Bearing in mind 1 lane was shut off. Yes a 30mph braking crash wouldn’t have a big impact but if am “avoiding” an accident to happen then as a driver your the one that makes they decisions and if that decision is right so be it.

The picture would show the other vehicle tail gaiting you. If it does, you could go to court and argue it but I think they would just say speeding is an absolute offence.

I feel your pain.
It really pees me off when some clown is an inch of my tail in a 30 or 40 but won’t overtake me , they just want me to go faster. I normally drop my speed by a couple of mph.

On Thursday afternoon I missed a temporary 50 heading North from where the A90 from Edinburgh joins the M90 - when you approach that gantry it seems to not be completely 90 degrees to the road, and together with a bright low sun shining onto it, it is not very clear a temp limit is lit up. Only realised when I saw the next limit which was 40, and slowed enough for that one.
