also heard some other moans about noise limits and people driving too fast!?!?
Shame as the course seems a good alternative to knockhill yet if theres limitations then
To be fair there was a well publicised 102db noise limit - the only people I saw affected were an old 2.7 RS who was initially metered then allowed to continue with no problems, then a Honda Civic with a very loud set of pipes which you could hear for all corners of the circuit and i would reckon was well over 102db.
As for driving too fast I'd imagine it was more a case of being told they are being dangerous, certainly if you were lapping quickly without pressuring other cars etc then there were no problems.
EF would make a great alternative to knockhill - if they got local planning issues, bit of track surface and facilities improved then they would be a serious commercial competitor, especially considering the low-lying location and weather advantages that must bring.
I got stung for noise (Bright green Caterham)
But in the afternoon!!!
Measured 110.6dB which is 3 times the limit
I was allowed to continue for the rest of the day, but told that I wouldn't be allowed back until my car was quieter
Might be moves afoot for a group of us to "do our own thing" as it were, because the general feel was that the track is great fun, but we could do without the over-long "safety" briefing freezing our bollox off, or the "hope you realise you're priveliged to use the circuit" tosh.
Looking at getting rough numbers at the mo, anyone here interested?

Noise limits, boring briefings all part of the score everywhere now! - partly insurance related. Not aware of any problems with too fast/bad driving - maybe that was the Sunday - standards fine on Saturday.
Ali, Good video - I was getting much more tyre squeal on tight corner after long straight, even though I let it run wide - could my tyres be too high pressure? - in view of extreme cold, left them at road pressures. Or is it my driving

The track has been improving year by year - its not perfect, but is a great alternative to Knockhill. The next bit to be done (this year) is the short straight after the chicane, which is currently very bumpy and does not really help the entry to the corner onto the main straight.

Hi Brian,
I was using 3rd gear there, probably a wee bit slower but smoother and easier on the car. Were you using 2nd?
Also running 'my' road pressures 24F/25R (cold) and they were fine according to the temp probe...
Cheers,
Ali
Ali, thanks. I was using Handbook pressures - 29 all round and as tyres didn't seem to heat up much, left them at that. Will experiment! Did not go easy on car though! - it felt great and faster than I would have thought.
May be imagination after driving 350Z this week but Exige brake pedal now feels a bit soft - could I have overheated the fluid at EF - is that possible in Exige?

When sprinting I found I got better grip by dropping the tyre pressures a couple of lbs. Given how cold it was road pressures were probably OK. Given the track temp and new-ish surface a bit of squeal is almost unavoidable... well, thats my theory

Brakes are my pet hate with the Exige although the ABS is very good (I hardly ever activate it despite my normally err, 'aggressive' braking style).
Probably the OEM pads are the culprit as mine feels much better after some new Pagids (same fluid). My std pads were done in 6K and had obviously overheated, broken up in places and the remaining surface was really soft.
Cheers,
Ali
I've sent an email to Melville Motorcylce Club enquiring about the possibility of hiring the track for some weekend dates this year. Will let you all know what the feedback is.
SIDC have a public liability policy which allows us to run events like this, so hopefully no legal hitches regarding the hire of the circuit.

Sadly they have come back to us and said that there were some complaints about noise from local residents, and they don't want to run any more car track events in the near future, as they wish to keep the use of the facility.
They have also said that their committee wany any car track hires to go through Javelin Motorsport.
I've asked them to let me know if there's any change in this policy in the future.

Although a different car, I also had a spongey pedal after EF - so a transplant of some new Castrol SRF and the pedal felt great again, and the brakes made 20+ laps of oulton international at the weekend with no sign of fade or spongeyness
