Life in Aberdeen & Oil/Gas Sector - Pros vs Cons?
Discussion
Yes, young engineers are in demand - I'm pushing 30 and I'm the youngest in our office by some way!
Offshore experience is very important IMHO, I've found you can learn as much in an afternoon following an experienced operator about as you can in a couple of weeks lectures. The problems with equipment availability and access can only really be appreciated once you've had a nose about on site.
Good luck with the job.

Worked in Aberdeen in the 80's suffered under the crash of 86, since then my only trips to Aberdeen were to see my daughter at Uni or fish the Dee. The oil and Gas industry has taken me all over the world and I have enjoyed it. Currently in Moscow and have been for the past 3 years, just started what I hope will be my last project (3 years)before I return home and play with my toys.

While there's a camptive audience here of O&G folk, can I get some quick advice please?
I'm applying to KCA Deutag for a graduate job in their Operations dept. This question is on the application form:
I'm not asking for the answer, just some pointers. I don't have any experiance in O&G yet, as I am a student.
Thanks a lot for any help

The oil and gas industry is a diverse and complex commercial arena. Analyticla skills and the ability to evaluate commercial situations are required as an everyday basis. Please comment on areas where such skills might be important in the oil and gas arena.

Any hydrographic surveyors in here ? I worked offshore for 4 years but have now been in the office for 4 years ( large operator). Money tremendous, training outstanding, housing cheap despite what peeps may think(IMHO), weather is better than the West coast by miles, and the roads are ace.Nice beaches too....
I was a graduate originally. As with other disciplnes the North Sea and beyond is DESPERATE for surveyors.
regards
Calum
p.s downside of ABZ - getting a flippin' taxi between 0000 hrs and 0600 hrs at the weekends. It REALLY put's me off hittin' the toon.
