Just thought you'd be interested to know that I spoke to George yesterday (it turns out I know his brother). We had a good chat came up with the idea of perhaps having a short demonstration race during the lunch break, with perhaps half a dozen carties. I've not seen the course at Fintray, but I'm guessing it'll be wide enough to run two or three carties at the same time, so we could have knockout races instead of time trials - that ought to add a bit of excitement .

I don't think it'd be difficult to find enough teams to take part from just those we already have in the area, but if you wanted to run your own carties as well that'd be great.

Also, I've been in touch with other cartie race organisers down in England, and it looks likely that there will be some kind of National Championship next year that may even feature some works teams, so maybe you'll get to see the Lotus 119C in action after all!

You can contact me via www.catterline.org if you want to find out more.

Good stuff!

Funny, CT and I were talking about this on Sunday and we agreed that one of the lunchtimes would be best ...

Eric : Aye, they could break for two hours one lunchtime, that'd work.

Murray : The buggers usually do!

sorry Murray

Actually, we talked about entering individually and it turned out that we had very different ideas on the optimum design principles ... I'm not going to reveal any secrets

Anyway, it'd be good to hear more about this closer to the time.

Cheers,

Eric

What a grass mad

I will certainly try to knock something up for it, maybe try to get the Young Tosser to pilot it though

Excitement ! Carnage I would have thought

Competitive spirit would overtake any sense of self presrvation, bloody good fun though !

Just thought you'd like a quick update - Catterline Cartie Challenge has been added to the provisional calendar for the 2007 National Soapbox Championship events (the only one in Scotland) and we hope to have a few of the National Class carties running alongside our usual assortment of lashups and bodge jobs. We've published our new rules along with the latest draft of the National Championship construction rules and you can download a copy from here.

We'll be sending out entry forms in Jan/Feb. Full details and information on how to get the entry forms earlier are here.

And they're off...!

Entries for the 2007 Catterline Cartie Challenge are now open - all the details are on Catterline Online.

There are plenty of places at the moment, but there is a maximum of 25 and it'll be first come first served, so get your entry in as soon as you can if you want to avoid disappointment.

I realise, of course, that a large part of the attraction of soapbox cartie racing is to build your own machine but - just in case you're planning to enter but aren't sure where the time is going to come from - you could always take the easy way out and buy one on eBay. The Lemming - immortalised in the video and winner of the best engineered prize, is going under the hammer. The reserve price might look a little steep at first glance, but if you divvy it up between all your team members and then factor in not having to put up with all the eye rolling and sighing from your other half it begins to look like a potential bargain.

More details of The Lemming, including full tech spec', is here.
