What are they?

I'm going up and down to Ayr (If anyone sees a very non-PH like E-reg Volvo with sticker tis me) from down south (either Durham, Cambridge, or Plymouth: complicated) fairly regularly so enjoy the A70 and that road that parallels the M74 down to Gretna, and pretty much all roads in the vincinity of Straiton seem fantastic.

But... which are the best roads around here? My primary interest lies in very twisty with excellent visibilty (twisty with poor visibilty is no fun), or with roads with very little grip, as those give me a better chance to get the back end out without any dramatic movement*.

*For some reason, I've found that this junction, if approaching from the east and heading north has been very slippy for the last couple of weeks, and thus great fun at very low speeds, traffic and pedestrians permitting.

Don't know what it's like now, but it used to be best to treat that junction with great care when turning right from Miller road to head north.

The problem wasn't the road surface, it was people failing to notice that the traffic lights were red (or even that they existed) and driving straight through them. Maybe they've improved the visibility of the lights since then.

As to good roads for driving, I used to like the road from Ayr to Dalmellington then across to Straiton and the Black Bull. The scenery could be a bit bleak, though.

Can't remember the name of the road but come off the A77 about 3 miles North of Ayr and there is a road to Galston and Tarbloton. Utterly superb.
