West side, would be tricky to bypass on the east.

Not really

Made a hell of a lot of sense to me - and I don't even have a TVR to blast down a tunnel

Ho ho. Being overtaken by a supply vessel would be embarrassing.

rolleyes Yeah ok, by town I meant Westhill. Not a complete loon, do have some sense of the local geography.
Ta for the link, shows the route as being between Westhill and Kingswells.

Definitely want to live round that area, since I’ve found out that it has a Costco. My favourite shop, after all where else can you come out with a case of wine and a trolley jack in the same basket.
Thanks for the tips.

Cheers G

Not seen that AGA West proposal before. I think the route is much too far out to take the heat off Anderson Drive and they would need to upgrade all the feeder roads too.

Looks like they are going for option 3 on the map with a link to Stonehaven via Netherley

A tunnel would be superb fun though biglaugh

My girlfriend lives in Cove which is just next to Altens, it takes her between 30 minutes to (very worst case) and hour and a half to get to Dyce for work, same coming back home. I live in Ferryhill in the city centre, takes me 20 minutes to get to work at the harbour if i take the car, 20 minutes if i walk.

Nice places to live, some nice bits in the city centre if you can handle the travelling, Westhill and Kingswell are both quite nice as well, Newmacher is a quiet out of city place if thats what you want. Most of Dyce is not great IMO

Mark,

I too live in Feryhill,

That's not your Z3M with naughty pipes by any chance is it?

I think their point was that the AWPR (if built as planned):-

1 - will do little to alleviate the volume of traffic in Aberdeen City, as it will simply be used as a rat-run to get from one bit of Aberdeen to the other

2 – will be an excuse to develop existing green space right up to the road no matter what the current Local plan states (providing fat profits to the “usual suspects”paperbag)

3- will cost a fortune in both financial and environmental terms

4- will do absolutely nothing whatsoever to un-jam existing bottlenecks at Bridge of Don, and that crowning glory of planning and traffic management Bridge of Dee. (Yes where we build the biggest superstore , B+ Q Currys Boots and ..oh go on then ..another supermarket... yes beside the busiest , oldest , most constantly jammed bridge in the City rolleyes)

5- will do nothing to assist the mess that is the Haudigan roundabout. ( I can’t believe they're considering granting planning for another x-hundred houses there – might as well stay at home!banghead)

At last, a TVR playground!! It's just so time-consuming to have to travel across Europe for decent tunnels.
I gather a couple of the tunnels in Norway have had the tolls removed ... could be real fun there!!!
Country Tunnel Length Date of opening Notes
Norway Bømlafjord 7 931 m 28.12.2000 E 39 Stavanger - Bergen (-262.5 m)
And another 18 or 20 worthwhile ones. What a tour that would be!!

I think its a great idea (its a pity its 30 years late), at the moment all the lorries heading to the Northern side of Abedeen, Dyce and Peterhead have to go through the town. There are also people like myself who live South of Aberdeen but work in Dyce, B.O.D etc and people who live North and want to get to the South. If you add all this up that is a lot of traffic that will no longer be going round Anderson drive and the Haudigan roundabout or along the Kings street/beach roads. A good road system is a long term investment in the economy and environment of Aberdeen and surrounding areas(although I appreciate that this may not be the case for people who live close to the proposed route).

Richard,

Not sure I'd get the Cerbera on the ferry to Norway due to ground clearance - I'll have to settle for the Mersey tunnel next time I'm down to watch the footie.

Pooh,

Have to agree with you all the plans involve lightening the load at the Brig of Dee and that will have beneficial effects on the whole of Anderson Drive. I know I'd be really hacked off if I was affected by the route so I can understand some of the frustrations of others. It is about twenty years too late and at present does not appear to address the Bridge of Don issues - Last Sunday afternoon there was a tailback from Anderson Drive all the way to the Exhibition Centre!!
