Sneaky A90 hiding place

The other week i was heading back up the A90. A few miles before (or after?) the Stonehaven turn off (you know, where the long sweeping S bend that goes down and up hill with views to the sea on one side...got the high-grip road surface..) well anyway. a couple miles before that bit (northbound) there is a house about 1/4 mile up a farm track. On your left. on the farm track there are evenly spaced trees every couple hundred yards for the length of the track.

Well i was driving within the limits, and happened to notice a traffic volvo estate sitting riiiiight up the road basically outside the house. As i drove by some poor sap in a yellow punto passed me at about 85mph. I thought the police were probably just doing a house call for something or other, but about 1 minute later they went thundering past me at about 100mph. A couple minutes later i passed them at that long sweeping S bend and they'd pulled over the punto driver.

Now correct me if i'm wrong, but what accurate speed detection can they do from that kind of distance?? What was the likely fate of the punto driver?

I tried to do a google earth to show you the location but the images there are really sketchy - if you make the drive often enough you'll know what i mean.

I've seen them sitting there a few times. Their own guidelines tell them that they shouldn't be hiding, but they do.

All they have to do to 'clock' the Punto's speed is count the number of white painted boxes on the road between the Punto driving past and when they catch up with him then they use the VASCAR glorified stopwatch to calculate his speed - prob 3 points etc

I assume everyone knows that those painted white squares are for timing cars.

it's nuts isn't it - i think they would honestly need binoculars to come anywhere near to an accurate guess of what speed he was doing.

surely anyone with half a brain could get that thrown out?

They also have taken to hiding up the wee road at the bottom of the S which is a pity as that is damn fun in the 7

I was under the impression the laser devices that are used for measuring speed can work near enough from one mile away? I don't know this location mentioned but I guess if they had that equipment the could calculate the Punto's speed from a good distance away.

The mobile camera unit was located on this section of the A90 on Saturday afternoon - the person delivering Broomsticklady's Z3 back to us came past it around 3pm...
