Where to Live - Edinburgh?
Discussion
Hey Cat
Guess your right with that one! I like walking to work so Leith is off the cards for me anyway although there are lots of nice new flats. I value my sleep! Grant management specialise in students and dont charge an admin fee. Braemore charge high admin fees but their service is pretty good. The best website for rentals is either www.lettingweb.co.uk or www.citylets.co.uk. HTH cheers Ed

Murrayfield, down by the stadium, the more modern houses/flat not the Victorian terraces.
Do some areas around there not get affected to varying degrees by the brewery smell in the air, especially in the warmer weather?
Haha, your sure right about that! GF stays just off Dalry road, and first time I visited I couldnt believe the smell, actually smells like beef flavor crisps to me, but you do get used to it....
Colonial - avoid student places (like Marchmont) and Victorian tenements if you value your privacy. The noise from neighbours is awful - I've no idea how the places command such resale prices.
Avoid the New Town if you want to avoid the yuppies - it can get tiresome in the local pubs, and you being an Aussie, well, you'll think you're in the south of England.
I'd go for the Murrayfield option as suggested by someone else and a narrow corridor south leading out to Craiglockhart. The Brewery smell isn't a big issue and is very periodic, often late at night.
Avoid medium and long commutes as the city council have ruined the transport infrastructure through bonkers ideas and mismanagement. Parking is a nightmare. Avoid places on main streets. Get a place within cycling distance of work but be prepared for truly shocking road surfaces like you never seen before. The nearest I've seen to Edinburgh roads is in the Balkans after the 90's wars. J

we've just put our flat up for rent, as we're moving back up to Aberdeen.
Fully furnished, good order etc
