Indeed, unmarked + blue lights doesn't always mean police. Like I said above, there are plenty of senior Paramedics/Fire officers with blue lights on their private cars - and plenty with some very tasty motors! smile

Speaking of fairness, I have to agree with Strathclyde being relatively fair. It's quite rare to see camera vans here, although I think they're a little more common towards Motherwell/Hamilton area? As for the Glasgow area, I can't recall ever seeing one in this neck of the woods.

Even over at Loch Lomond, where a lot of people head for a little bit of spirited driving, it's sensibly policed. There's the spot at Tarbet where they like to hide with a speedgun - but that's a 30 zone with lots of pedestrian activity on the pavements, and fair game as far as I'm concerned.

Not as if they'd give it some beans to join in catch up with a Pistonheads convoy over there.. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uyDslwLChvc&fea...smile
Thanks, good to get appreciated every so often.

The fire officer from the falkirk fire station currently users a dark grey BMW 1 series hatchback and will venture into west lothian. It has a very much aftermarket blue light on the top i.e only on with magnets.

Guys I stand corrected but find it extremely doubtful that the police would be using a 3 door Civic Type R as an unmarked car?
I'm sure at least one of the unmarked Focus ST's on 'Road Wars' were 3-dr...

The most inconspicuous Ford Mondeo in Northern Constabulary, dark blue, rep spec wheels, no external aerials, Focus ST engine. Buggers caught me last month at Daviot on the A9 when I was on the bike, they were hiding behind the Portacabin on the Southbound carriageway. Up in court in January for it, think it was the fact it took them to Carrbridge to catch up that meant I wasn't getting away with a fixed penalty.

Grampian have 2 unmarked Midnight Blue 530d, 1 silver 530d, and they've still got that dodgey old dark red Omega kicking around somewhere. There's also a couple of silver Omegas and 2 dark coloured S60 Volvos (no idea of colour as I've only seen them at night). Rumour is there's an unmarked Saab 9-3 as well, but I've not seen it yet.

Strathclyde have:

Dark blue 530D - 05 Plate.
Dark Blue 530D - 05 Plate, Ends in OBE.
Silver 530d, 56 plate im sure.
Blue Focus ST 5 door - Tinted back windows, Large blue lihts on front bumper corner. This is a , They sit up your arse to wind you up to race or brake test them.
Black Insignia - 09 Plate - Always near the airport.

And there were 2 Mazda 6's in green being kitted out on Thursday there, Im told one is staying in Glasgow and the other is going out to Stirling.

All of this was from a reliable source *ahem*, Except the Focus which i found out the hard way. mad But iv seen the rest myself on the M8, M80 and A80 except the Mazda's obviously.

How long does the average unmarked stay in service?

I try to behave these days but as well as looking for extra internal/external lights, mounted cameras, and white shirts, .etc, I try to note the number plate and would not expect anything over 5 years to be an active traffic car.

Saw a silver Ford S Max that had pulled someone over near Kinfauns, Perth on the A90.

Didn't get the no. plate but it looks totally standard
