Well there I was this morning, driving along the M8 westbound towards the A737.

Being a loyal reader of this thread, I am scanning all the cars passing, looking out for silver Astras or Audis with SF registration plates.

Suddenly as I am nearing the Govan cut off, I see a marked police car on the bridge, look down and speedo is saying about 65 in the 50 limit. Immediately take foot off accelerator just as a woman in a Twingo overtakes on outside lane. I see police car setting off.......

As I pass the on sliproad I see the 3 series BMW Estate coming down the slip road. Now it looks just like any other BMW estate and very hard to notice that its a police car. The only differences being the flashing blue lights on the roof, the siren, the Battenburh stripes on it and the "Police" emblazoned over it......

It comes up behind me and signals.......... to move out to the middle lane and goes after the Twingo and hauls it over!!!

Phew!!!!!

Moral of the story - watch your speed limit and listen to all the bongs the TomTom gives when you are exceeding it! If you stick to the speed limit then no need to look out for marked or unmarked cars......

Local chap got caught recently doing 136 in a 60 between Garve and Achnasheen by an unmarked Volvo. They are very rarely on that stretch, but when they are they bust most of the people that pass. (Anyone that knows the road will understand why).

Saw a car today with a SJ plate - in Strathclyde - is this the new national police force prefix, as at least I used to know to look for SF on suspicious dark coloured cars.

Having just moved up from London, I find this thread amazing. The police down there don't have time to go out catching people speeding anymore, it must be 10 years since I saw a manned speed trap inside the M25, let almone undercover motorway traffic cars, never. This is a good thing that crime is so low in Scotland that the police have time for these shenanigans smile I wondered why everyone was driving so slowly, now I know biggrin

In general I would say that in return we probably have a lot less fixed cameras up here compared to down South?

There are a couple north of here (Dunblane) on the A9. unless they are digital they are rarely loaded in the South East.

Driving in England vs Scotland I usually find M'way speeds higher (and vehicle gaps smaller) but nice roads, speeds tend to be much lower and much less overtaking.

Noticed that the M/A77 has been getting a lot of marked and un-marked action over the last couple of weeks. Maybe finally realising all those SPECS cameras don't cover actual safe driving?

I use this route on a daily basis and apply the same scanning, I have never seen plod sitting on the overpass the only reason I know this happens is a mate of mine got done the sameway, 60ish in a 50.
Must be the time I use this part ? 7-8am 5-6pm, you struggle to beat 50 at these times I suppose !

Unmarked black Audi S3, think it was a 12 plate, on the M9 today just before Edinburgh airport. Had pulled over a BMW so it was all lit up, otherwise I'd never have thought it was the Police!

That black S3 on the M9 was a 10 plate.

Passed me like I was parked.
