I remember the early front loaders which still had ticket conductors before the introduction of the pay as you enter with only the driver and then the exact change only machines.

Going on the bus was a "holiday treat" for a small kid from the far North.

Anyone else remember George Street when you could drive through to Union Street?
You could go right past Robert Rae's for your Pepe jeans (with keyring) and Aberdeen FC kit and Puma Paris trainers, then down to Arnotts of Fraser (where Slanj is now) for pretty much ANYTHING, past the Norco (where John Lewis is now) and right up to Union Street, popping off in Burtons (where GAP is now) to get your skinny jeans or pink fred perry style top!

And on down Market St, in the other direction.

One thing I don't understand about all these old pictures...where are all the beggars?

wink

Moved away from Aberdeen in the mid 80's but I remember the band Superklute very well. Fronted by Frankie Robb who used to 'pretend' hang himself from the ceiling in front of the pool table. The ten pin lounge was my second home, used to go there every weekend. Cant remember the names of all the band members? Watched through many line up changes, even have a cassette tape of a gig they did. Taped it secretly, very bad quality but brings back fab memories. Songs such a 'leaving', ' sweet soul woman', Best years of my life. Saw many bands there, another favourite was Rue de Remarx (Ross the guitarist went on to open successful music intrument shops - I beleive the one in the Green is still there. lso remember badns such as freebird, pallas, 30 footers.

Wow,a real blast from the past.

What about Grand Fare and the Hays lemonade factory. Used to be fascinated by the Co op dairy next door and the bottling plant.

Indeed does anyone rememer hays made their own Iron Brew, and the Torry Rock shop.

My old man used to work there, can pick out the pillar his desk was beside whenever I'm in that pub downstairs from Slaters. As a boy I enjoyed driving up and down from the roof!

I was also in Aberdeen standing on Union Street just down from the Gardens when the Dons paraded the European Cup Winners Cup (not the European Cup). "Super Sub" Hewitt the goal scoring hero and all.

The town went crazy immediately after the final whistle with horns blowing and people out partying in the street.
I was in Aberdeen, heading back to Shetland, the day the "St Clair" headed off to Sweden on a charter, full of Dons fans.

We had to report in at the P&O terminal - I think we were to be flown up to Shetland. I decided to go for a pint at the pub beside the ferry terminal - foget the name confused

No beer - the Dons fans had literally drunk it dry eekeek
