went north up the A9 over the weekend. most of the road is a 60 limit yet plagued by people who drive at 45-50 mph. so to get past one of these i gave it a bit of stick and crossed over 4 strips in the road during a safe overtaking period. this is on a long bit of straight at the southern end of the road. there is a gatso near by but the strips didn't seem to be connected with it.

what are these strips for, is it a camera? should i expect the worst?

If the camera didn't go off, then no problem. may have been old markings from road works or similar.

Exactly where was this?

i think it was on the long straight before dunkeld. road is wooded on both sides. gentle hill up going north. iirc, gatso on north bound side. bit worried as i was going pretty quick, though slowing down after passing a 45 mph numpty.

if the road is 60, why do people dander along at 45-50? it is just so irritating, get up to the speed limit, they should be NIP'd for making insufficient progress.

Get caught behind them all the time.

The most annoying are those who tuck in behind trucks and haven't got a clue how to overtake or leave a gap for you to use - then four or five them get together.

F***ing morons.

Were strips black rubber or painted? If black rubber they'll be traffic counters - harmless.

My pet hate too.. thanks for suggesting F***ing morons.

...and then if they DO want to overtake... they 'pop' out for a quick look (when if they'd have been in the correct place they would have seen a mile or so earlier that they could safely have done so)... then surprise, surpise, thier car hasn't got anything like the poke needed to get past a 40 tonne truck.

The other week was a classic.

Daft bint in a Peugeot tucked in behind 40 tonner.

Her mind must have been on other things - truck pulls into a layby without signalling and she blindly follows then realises what she's done and tries to pull back onto the carraigeway, almost taking my nose off.

Again...F***ing morons!

they were rubber strips embedded in the road, not the ones stapled onto the road. i suspect it might be a Tri-eye digi camera. i am back up that way soon so will stop and have a proper look. if i get a NIP, i will know it was a camera!

The strips are an old type of system linked to road side mobile cameras , not used now as Gatso replaced most sites.
