Nick,

They are located near Kings Lynn in Norfolk, and yes, it does look as if the car will be claimed by the insurance company who paid out on the claim.

I'm sure that Ted will censor this thread soon do to me naming this dealer, but Ted please understand, I don't wish your site any harm, I just don't know what else to do to warn people about the b*stard.

Heartbraking. Did the guy seem ok when you bought the car and how have the police been ?

Nick,

The car was bought from a TVR main dealer owned by Robin Brundle. Thats what makes me so mad.

Well if the car was nicked it looks like he'd not got a leg to stand on. With a bit of luck you'll get your money back double quick so you can sort yourself out with another car. Will you be after another TVR ?

Someone I used to work with bought a stolen car (a corsa of all things) and was able to buy it off the insurance company cheaply in order to recover some of the losses, after all they don't wan't it and I think they understand that there is a second victim in this sort of thing.
She had bought it direct from the theif and managed to supply enough info to the police to get the bas***d knicked.
I'm sure with a dealer you have some sort of protection against this sort of thing and the police will be asking them some questions. Might be worth talking to trading standards as well and any trade association they are a member of to help them give you the money back quicker!
Good luck
GF.

This sounds interesting, get the money back from the dealer, rebuy the car from the insurance company at say 50% of what you originally paid, half price and clear ownership!

Just a thought but I would get some legal advice on this. When I lost my Cerbera in the Team Central bankruptcy, my solicitor ssaid that if the current owner had paid cash for it, title would have passed to him effectively as it was from a dealer. As the car was financed, the finance company was in breach of contract and could be sued for recover of the car or money which is how I got the money back. If you paid cash for the car, it might be yours anyway. If it was financed, then the finance company may have to sort the mess out. It is complex but there may be some silver linings in it.

Steve

PS I used the legal helpline with my house insurance.

I have heard that a few well chosen words in an e-mail to the offending dealer cc'd to watchdog@bbc.co.uk may encourage them to be of more assistance.

I wish you luck getting this sorted.

I'm pretty sure that once this b*st*rd finds out that it's definitley stolen, he will be advised by his lawyer to settle out of court. This would be a highly embarrasing case for the dealer. Mrs Flasher is in the legal profession I will ask for some advice, if it helps. In the meantime, good luck.

I note that www.brundle.co.uk has recently gone bang. Are they feeling the heat I wonder?

Talking of heat I am sure that a certain ex F1 driver now ITV commentator and part owner of the outfit that sold the car would be feeling rather warm if this one got to the media.

He's about to.

Sounds like you have a good case, but until legal action is complete, I think it unwise to talk about it in a public forum as this may prejudice your case and result in counter-claims.
