Good effort
Doesn't look to shabby to me (well OK shabby, but not rotten ).
Gearbox cross-member looks to have been monkeyed...er, modified?
Front end does look a bit odd.
Tip from me re. the engine would be to Helicoil all the exhaust manifold threads in the heads: sooner or later you WILL strip one otherwise and they're nigh-on impossible to access with the engine in the car.

Great guys for the comments
The header thread bolts came out quite easy, but I had squirted them with wd40 daily for a week. Everyone had this random grey powder on the treads???
Andy, thanks for the pics. Mine almost looks as though the slopinging down tubes at the front have been cut out between the top rail and strut mount. Then replaced to reconnect the top rail to the end on the front horizontal bar . Weird
Adrain@, you saying that could be a tvr mod, vs part of the v8 conversion you think?
I'll tap up Steve Guest for some pic :-)
Cheers guys and those hardening off to Burghley have a great day

At the pace you work Glen and at £50 a day we can form an orderly queue to your garage doors, you'd have all our cars sorted by Christmas, what ya say?
My you are generous lolGiven I've never done anything like this before I'm sort of pleased with myself
I guess taking it apart is the easy bit
Couple of chassis schematics from the bible and my parts book
My front is a blend of the 2. I also have those side flaps the body sits on. The 280 pics doesn't seem to have them in that shot
Per Adrian's note, anyone got any tub shots to see the difference between 280 and 350

This looks similar to yours, it's from a LHD series 1 280.

Hi Glen
My chassis pics are as said a 350i, (The first production car) but the chassis was a 280i which had been altered on the production line.
The interesting thing on you chassis is the off side angled strut which is curved while the nearside is a strait strut. The curved strut was fitted for cars with powered steering as the bottom UJ is further up the shaft and it would hit the strut if it was strait.
You can also see from my pics where they bent the top rails to get the enging/exhaust in, and also the first cross memeber had been cut and a piece welded in the make it wider. The only problem there was the body shell was not made any wider so it was a thight fit when I took the body off but putting it back on gravity assisted.

Good spot ref the curved strut for power steering
Now mine is a November 1980 car, power steering didn't come online till January 1981 (unless it was modded during the v8 conversion as it was running power steering)

Your whole chassis is from a later age, in November 80 the suspension steering used a completly different layout. Your chassis style is from 83 onwards which has been altered as already mentioned by my self and Adrian.
So I think it must have had a chassis change at some time.
