i have finally got round to doing the suspension on my 350iand have come across more problems, apart from most of the bushes needing fettling to get them to fit (length) i have noticed that the bushes in the rear A frame actually rotate when the frame is lifted or lowered, i assumed that the bolt would move in the bush liner, is this ok or are the bushes going to wear quickly. Also i have fitted the uprated springs that have been in the garage for the last 2 years, the fronts are ok but the rears are about an inch and a half shorter, i spoke to richards thorpe and he assures me that because they are stiffer they are made shorter to keep the ride height the same, the problem is that when the car is jacked up the springs pop off their mountings and dont go back when the car is lowered, again richard says this is ok but im worried that they might come out when im driving, and also it wont pass its MOT like this, any ideas please.

Mine has AVO shocks and on the ones on the back, the bottom plate holding the spring would appear to be adjustable for height, with a screw thread on the shock and two large nuts round the shock holding the bottom plate.

Not casting aspersions towards any particular TVR 'specialists', but I have heard several tales of non-fitting/ incorrectly supplied suspension parts.

I'm still waiting for some good reports so that I can decide where to spend my wad when the 390 gets its long-overdue sussy overhaul next winter.

If the springs are too short that they fall off the mount, this is very serious as it will wreck the shocks and cause the suspension to have several very strange and disturbing handling characteristics.

It is an MOT failure in other European countries but not in the UK (yet).

The solution is either raise the height platform so that the spring is retained, or get new springs or fit a set of helper springs to locates the main spring in place. They are expensive though and cost about £20 for the helper and £12 for the adapter plate per side + VAT on top.

Just done it to the 520 to address a couple of wierd problems I was having.

cheers, i'll have a look and see if i sort somthing out, i might just put the old springs back on, the car now sits lower at the back and looks a bit strange, like i say ive had the springs over 2 years.
my bushes are superflex too, if you are going to buy any get them straight from superflex, they are a lot cheaper than going through a dealer like i did, also peninsula told me the reason they didnt send any lower wish bone bushes ( in the full wedge suspension kit) was beause nobody made them ( even though superflex list them)www.racecar.co.uk/superflex/t.html
