Can't help with a 'box, but if you are really stuck ...

bearingkits.co.uk sell a lot of repair stuff both 4 and 5 speed boxes.

swops -

You can use any 4 speed V6 Capri, Granny, even Cortina 2.3 at a pinch. They will all bolt up.

Type 9 5 speeders also came from 2.3 Sierras.

You CAN swop bellhousings around between 4 speed type E (i.e 2.3 Cortina) and 5 speeders as long as you change input shaft to a 2.3 V6 one to match. (bearingkits.co.uk sell input shafts etc) so it is possible to make up a V6 box from a 4 cyl one just by substituting the right parts.

Yeah I know, not much help, but that's how I made a V6 5 speeder for a kit car, so I know it's true.

Thanks for all the suggestions and advice.

I have a spare box but it is from an S2 or 3 and has electronic speedo drive, I want cable drive (S1 and I'm guessing 280 Wedges?), I believe the tailhousing is different (drive comes out opposite side) it's not as simple as swap electronic transmitter thingy for a cable drive whatsit?

Most 2.8 wedges are 4 speed type 'B' boxes (same as old 3.0 Capri). Didn't go 5 speed until quite late on...

Yes, tail housing is different.

I believe Ford changed the speedo drive gear for a 'square tooth' cog for the pickup, but mainshaft is the same.

So if you can find a 4 cyl box tailshaft will probably interchange (drive cog is pressed on, fairly lightly so you can use hammer to change it).
but 4 cyl box will have wrong speedo gears probably. I think you need an 8 tooth mainshaft cog and 24 speedo cog ??
