Seals - Where do You Get Yours From?
Discussion
I'm looking for a 'P' section rubber extrusion to try out as a scuttle seal. I've used Woolies for seals and am very happy with their service but they don't do a 'P' section. Sealsdirect do a 'P' section but have refused to send me a sample because I've already had two samples from them! The guy there says that even if I subsequently buy 4m of boot seal and 3m of 'P' section (about £45.00) the postage he's already incurred sending me the two samples means he won't make any money! So Can you believe it?
If you like you're samples.... but they're not free
Also had a sample pack from these guys but can only find seal on top, not edge at the moment?
I'll be ordering some samples from Baines on Monday and if the seals look like they will do the job I'll get them on order. Comparing like for like with Sealsdirect you can see there is potentially a big saving by going to Baines...
Wollies do a door seal as well which looks like is will do the job (@ £3.00/m) but the Baines one has a larger section channel and so should be easier to clip over the edge of the carpet and headlining.
Not compared postage costs yet but Baines will have to be sending them by taxi for that to make a significant
difference.

I did try the Baines seal on one side only but it still leaked at the bottom (ie the top of the sill) but not as badly as before. This may have been because there is currently no vinyl or carpet which would hold the seal tighter to the lip on the body. I didn't want to take the chance though so I got another seal from TVR parts. THIS ONE. The bulb is bigger in the TVR part and there is a small lip which seems to help form a seal against the body when compressed. I haven't tried it yet and it was a lot more expensive so I hope it works!
On the positive side for the Baines seal, it cuts out a lot more wind noise and the door opens and closes much more easily than the with original.
As all the cars are slightly different there's noting to say the Baines one won't work on yours, so you might be alright with that one. Is yours a FHC? If not then the Baines one might be fine because I think the water is getting at the top of the seal and running down the inside of the 'U' section. If you can wait until I've fitted the TVR Parts one I'd be happy to sell on the Baines stuff at a decent discount.

Hi i'm after the door seal for the DHC but i also have a FHC that i need to start work on.
The door seal is one continuous piece that loops over the top of the targa panel as well so it needs to be a good fit otherwise it will leak like a sieve !!
I'm in no rush for the FHC one so can wait for that.I'll be interested to see how you get on.
Do Baines send small samples ?
Thanks
Mike

Hi Mike
You could try some of this for the door seal...I have a small amount that I could send you a sample of for £200......(2nd class post really)

Im surprised at seals direct TBH...I have had loads of samples from them and they have never moaned...Mind you they have had a fair bit of business from my recommendations so that probably helped...

When (no names, no pack drill) got awkward I cross checked their range with that of Baines. Bains have a bigger range and the seals I was interested in were pretty much same in terms of profile and dimensions and cheaper. Plus Baines have very nice lady who is more than helpful. No brainier for me so the other lot can shove their seals where the sun don't shine
