Hi Toby

You would benefit more from a radiator cowling and a decent size and make of fan!!
There are loads of controllers but something like this is perfect..
https://www.ebay.co.uk/p/Aeroline-Capillary-Thermo...
and then one of these so that you can put the probe into the top hose without any leaks....
https://www.holden.co.uk/displayproduct.asp?pCode=...

Trust me... I have had geysers erupting from my cooling system and heat ranges over 100 degrees...buy a good size and make of fan..get a cowling made up, it could have the rubber flaps similar to the 350i so that when you are moving the air moves freely through the rad and engine bay and when you are stationery the fan pulls the flaps closed and draws air from the nosecone.....simples...

Thanks Zig, it has a new 14 inch fan on it and a shroud which seal well.Works better than minus the shroud but still not well enough on a hot day.

Is that a big enough fan?...I managed to fit an 18" to Delilah so anything up to that would be better, im sure they were 16" originally?...14" might not be enough...possibly...just a thought...smile

But the original rad core height is 360mm or 14 1/2 inches. .

Is your rad in the nosecone or engine bay?

How would that happen?

I guess if there's a shroud on it the working fan sucks air both through the rad and through the other hole in the shroud, i.e. the stationary fan hole. So the working fan pushes hot air into the engine bay, some of which then goes back through the stationary fan and around again and again.

This is why the V8 cowling has rubber flaps...when stationery the fan pulls the flaps closed...when moving they allow air to pass through and help remove heat build up from the engine bay....

Just wondering...do you know the CFM ( cubic feet per minute) of the existing fan...is it enough?

On another note....I added an air intake hose from the nosecone to my air filter...what I have noticed is that temperatures while moving on motorways has dropped by 1/4 which means when I come to a stop the stationery temps are lower....

Maybe a couple of intakes hoses from nosecone to engine bay will help to lower temps....

This email dropped into my mail box over night...

So there's a computer in China somewhere which seems to have linked my email address with "aluminium radiator" and generated a phishing email.

Has anyone else had one of these?

Hi Joe

I have had invoices from spurious sources which get blocked and deleted.....

Mornin' Zig!

Let's see: CFM of fan - no I don't (yet) and I note there's a huge variation between brands and models of the same size. It is a slim line one so probably not huge CFM, but whatever it is, it ain't enough..

Rubber flaps: I agree, but no, my shroud was a quick DIY job to see if one made a difference. The only hole in the back of it is the fan hole, so maybe 25% of the surface area is flat galvo sheeting a couple of inches back from the core.

The airbox inlet was too close to the back of the shroud so I had to reverse it so the inlet faced backwards. Seems to work but longer term I'd like to fabricate an alloy airbox lid with a hose into the nose cone as you've done.

This one has been added to the phishing list but the point is, the only place where my email address and "aluminium radiator" can be linked by recent traffic is here.

PH say it's nothing to do with them...

That's good to know but how did the little buredfaceredfaceers make the link. Just a coincidence?

Umm - I think matching your screen/user name to your real email would not be so easy w/o so inside access or a lot of effort on the web.

Here's an old thread which you may find interesting.

As Pete said though, the kit won't help if there's something wrong with the cooling system

I’m going to replace the little Mickey Mouse cooling fan on my 2.8 Tasmin with a shrouded puller very soon. It currently has a probe sensor through the radiator near the lower hose. The fan comes on randomly or maybe it’s always running when the ignition is switched on. It’s small, not loud and not effective. I haven’t tested the probe but have read questionable opinions about them. I guess my question is, is there a plug or provision for a water jacket fan sensor anywhere in the block/head? And what have others used for a fan sensor?

Oh, also had the radiator checked and checked the gauge sensor. Was hoping it was just the wrong sender but the Smiths and Ford senders both read about the same in the pot of boiling water test.
