OK lads (& lassies?) can you help out here please. I have a Spannish pal who has a house in Newcastle and a 390SE. His job has changed and he now spends more time in Barcelona now and wants to sell his Trev.

Here's the spec:

He has owned it since Jul 1990 and has one previous owner. Dec 88/F reg. Metallic BRG and half hide. Good RE71's still. Only 31,500m with FSH - major services at TVR factory. In very good condition.

What price do you think he should ask for?

Roar on.

He'll be pleased at that There was a 24,000m 1990 one in Sprint for £10k so I told him about 8,500

Anybody else have an ideas?

Roar on.

1990 400s are asking £9-10,000, i would have thought about £7-7500 ish.

I paid £6500 for my '87 390SE 2 years ago; admittedly it's high-mileage and far from mint. That was from a dealer; initially I was going to buy it from the last owner for £4500 but he crapped on me and sold it into the trade instead (lots of people on here will remember it well!).
I have no idea what it's worth at present; even with a recon engine it's still not many people's idea of a good Wedge. I did once tentatively advertise it when I thought I had an overseas job coming up but got no interest at £6000. The job fell through and I still have the car.
I met a guy who bought a '90 400SE that was bloody good for £7500 and he got that from HHC about 18 months ago 'cos they wanted rid of it.
For your mate's car I'd say £8000 as a starting point, but don't be too surprised if nobody bites your (his) hand off at that.

Whatever the price/value, consider trolling it on eBay (or equivalent) with a high reserve. You likely will not get a buyer via the auction but it is free exposure and you may get a lead that works out for a private sale. When I was looking for my wedge, I "discovered" several that were otherwise only listed local papers. Grady

The worst part about Ian not buying it privately was the fact I was going to test drive it for him as it was based down south.

It's always a shame when you miss out on thrashing someone elses TIV!

Between 7-8 grand would be a good start point.

Thanks all you chaps (& chapesses?).

Looks like I was about right then. Troll it around for about 8,5 and take 8 for it.

Cheers again.

I remember this car - it was usually parked on Helmsley Rd one block from where my wedge was often parked, bacause my Spanish girlfriend lived in the same street. Thought I knew every mad Spaniard in the area, obviously not because our paths didn't cross...

Remember it was as straight as it sounds, but unfortunately the market,s not good for wedges and 7-8000 sounds about right. Good luck.......

There's one in the PH classifieds just now for £6500.

I'd've thought it'd have to be an excellent example to get much more than that. Given that 400SEs seem to start at £7k, or even less sometimes, and it's coming up for winter so demand will be less, and even Chimearas start below £10k these days.

NB Vested interest declaration: If I get my job sorted out I'll be in the market for a 390 ...

He said he only used it to drive to the deli to get fresh bread at the weekends lately. He's worked out the total cost/mile and it would have been cheaper to hire a stretch limo full of tarts and get a bl*w job on the way back. Including the price of the bread!

He said he may try to sell it in Spain (probably get just the same in Pesetas!). I told him to p/ex it for a Tuscan. Good idea?
