Read brake bleed nipple dimensions?
Discussion
Hi I have had a snapped bleed nipple on the diff rebuild ( it snapped before I put the thing back in!)
Luckily I have got the remains of the old one out and left the threads looking OK and I just started looking on the flea for a replacement.
Jag "proper" ones seem to be a fiver each which seems a bit unnecessary.
Anyone know the thread dimensions? Looks like UNF. Nut size is 11mm.
Major diameter seems to be 9.03mm (yes I have a digital calipers now) but for a 3/8" UNF my thread calculator gives
Major diameter: 9.4960 / 9.3129mm. Which seems too big?
No one seems to publish the actual size data on the Jag ones (but it's the same as the pipe fitting unions). And I looked on the Jag sites with no luck.

I've been looking for bits and bobs for the rear brakes recently, this place seems to have everything you'd need.

If it's imperial (and it stands a good chance if it's from an old Jag) it'll be 3/8unf 24tpiBut from your measurements could it be Metric? M10 fine 1mm pitch.

Yeah that's interesting they have them for 58p, whereas when I searched their site earlier I could only find the £4.50 ones. Much more reasonable, until you add p+p, then the bill for one bleed nipple comes to over £13! Eeek!https://www.britishparts.co.uk/jaguar-parts-c11/ja...
I also have my local garage they have a selection although they tend to be mainly metric.
I was thinking also before attempting to move a stuck nipple (they WILL snap) clean out the hole, put some brake fluid down it, and let it soak for a week or two.
I should have done this myself, it will allow time for the brake fluid to penetrate the threads from below, as it will go down the side hole into the chamber above the seal, and loosen up the rust.

Tip from a mechanic was to give it a tap with a hammer before you try to remove it. Obviously there is a risk of damaging it so I would only do it if it feels stuck and likely to sheer off.
Must say I was skeptical it would make any difference but tried it a few times and it does seem to work.
Cheers Steve

Ha ha some copaslip on the threads, plus a cap on the top to stop moisture getting in and rusting it from the bottom, would surely do the trick?
No the seller said no offers for one off, but I reckon maybe to get 10 off on an offer and bring to BBWF? Assuming my pumpkin is back in that is.
