Apologies, another SEAC question.

I previously owned a 450SE with PAS fitted and thought is suited the car well. I understand PAS was an option on the SEAC, so was wondering who has/had cars with it fitted, who doesn't and your preference?

This probably won’t answer your question but I’ve owned V8 Wedges with pas and without. It all depends what you are using the car for. Without, the steering is heavy but you do have a better feel of the road when moving. Pas can give problems, leaking, noisy etc. especially as the car gets older, but I would recommend it if it’s going to be a daily driver. If it’s occasional weekend use, the non pas is fine and keeps your arm muscles in good shape. Whilst on the move the steering heaviness is not bad, but parking in tight spaces can be a problem.

I've had a non PAS SEAC with rose jointed front suspension and a 350i with PAS. The SEAC was very responsive, probably too much feedback on poor roads and was very heavy to park with the wider tyres. I generally like the PAS on the 350 but it does get a bit vague at speed. Again I think it depends on the journeys you'll be making but maybe rose jointing with PAS would be a good compromise? I can't see me enjoying the SEAC as much though with the PAS.

I have a 1988 420 SEAC in LHD with PAS. I’m indifferent to the PAS. It only gets noticed in limited situations. It sure is nice to palm the wheel while backing up and looking over my shoulder, but at parking/creeping speeds when turning sharply it sometimes tries to stall the car and make me feel foolish. With all else being equal, I’ll take the PAS, because it *might* bring more at resale. I don’t plan to sell the SEAC for a long long time though...

The manual steering suites the wedge fine.

I've converted mine to epas using a Saxo pump.

How pleased are you with the result and what’s involved if you don’t mind me asking?

I've now tried one without PAS and yes, it is heavier than I'd like at parking speeds, but fine otherwise. Now in the process of buying one without PAS so I'll see how it goes.

My SEAC has PAS. I must say that its a delight to drive but then I've never tried one without.

No PAS on mine and the steering is very heavy on 245 tyres, not unmanageable though. I've driven 350is with and without PAS; at low speed clearly PAS is better but I prefer the feel of non-PAS when moving.
