Griff 500 dipstick oil max to min capacity
Discussion
Make sure you check the oil stone cold, my dipstick gave confusing readings when warm, just a smeared hard to read blur. But I always check my oil after the car has stood over night, and always get a good clean reading. I find my 1995 500 with 81,000 miles to consume "about" a quarter of a pint every 50/60 miles or so. It's important to check regularly, about once a week, or after a long run. The exhaust is still clean though, no blue smoke.

Think it's about 1 litre on mine. They can use up to 1 litre per 1000 miles!!!
My 4.0 Chimaera consistently uses half a litre every 1000 miles, always has and never seems to change, this level consumption perfectly normal for a fit Rover V8.A five litre of course was fiddled with a lot more by TVR and the more you stray from an OEM Land Rover built Rover V8 the less likely it is to follow the normal oil consumption of 500ml per 1,000 miles. The five litre has shorter valve guides, different pistons and produces a lot of vacuum on the over run so I'd expect it to use more.
A litre every 1,000 miles would be seriously heavy oil consumption on a modern engine, but on a TVR five litre Rover V8 build its perfectly normal.

Thanks. Consumption is around 2400miles/litre then, my engine is a high miler so pleased with that.
But the above proves it can be a lot less Gassing Station | Griffith | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
