Well, it's in! On the bright side seems to be working fine. On the downside, does not seem to have fixed my hot start issues. To recap, so far i've:

Replaced all the old bent/eroded hose with new hose.
Replaced the fuel filter
Replaced the fuel pump
Had the mixture adjusted

Any other suggestions before I push it off the pier?

EDIT: Am having issues with my starter motor sticking too, so will replace that and see if it helps.

Best,
J

Good news! Issue seems to be fixed. We'll see what happens in the future..
Basically was an issue with my sparkies giving up at high temp. New sent and we seem good to go.
Also took the advice to use a bottle of fuel cleaner, feels a bit sharper as a result.
120 miles to Bristol tomorrow to see if it holds together!
Cheers,
J

Predictably, another issue reared its head.

After about 45 miles, the fuel pump (brand new) started screaming, and the engine suddenly started cutting out when I was accelerating. Died in the middle of a roundabout.

I found a big leak in what i think was the auxiliary air tube (starts on the left of the engine looking towards the car and then comes down around the front and enters near the throttle body), so i've replaced that, but I don't think that in itself would cause the fuel pump issues,
Last thing i haven't replaced is the accumulator, so i'm probably going to replace that and, if it doesn't work, burn the car down.

Does anyone know if this will work?

I know! Some stty luck right.

I think it just had a myriad of problems that emerged when something else was fixed. The hot start seems fine now. The problem i've had the last few times has been the fuel pump coming under massive strain after about an hour of driving, so I assume that it's a problem with the fuel line and as it's all new piping and a new filter, i literally don't see what else it can be other than the acc.

Probably something else i've not even thought of though.

Hey Ziga.

Thanks for the fuel warning. Fuel looks ok, had it all removed when pump changed. Tank does look a bit rusty when I look down the fuel cap though, so it's possible.

How quickly would your pump play up when you drove it? Mine regularly does short trips fine and only runs into issues after 50+ miles.

Hmm does sound scarily plausible. What was the cure on your end?

I replaced all the hoses stuff from TVR parts and got a new filter, so hopefully i've only fked my pump even if it is a rusty fuel issue.

Interesting. Did it work without restricting flow too much?

This the sort of thing you used? https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/UNIVERSAL-Chrome-Glass-...

Wow, what a machine ziggs.

The guy you mentioned who you would have had look at the engine, where is he based? I'm feeling like it might be time to just take it to someone who knows the fuel system engine really well and can give it a proper lookover.

In the meantime, i'm whacking in the new accumulator and a pre-pump filter and seeing if that fixes the issues.

Guys thanks so much for the helpful (if sobering) input.

I've ordered a pre fuel pump. Unfortunately goofed and ordered a 40m rather than 100 - will that be a problem?

@Kelivnator - were you getting similar symptoms to me? I'll check the filters further up. Hoped putting a new post - pump filter in would stop that, but there is always micro crap that can get through. Checked out your website, awesome job!

@Ziga, I see the tickover guys did your conversion - if i have persistent issues would you recommend them for a deep dive? 60 miles seems to be my operational range before it starts falling apart, so they are just close enough?

One other thing - when the guy checked my pump he said it was drawing very high current 8-9 amps. Any idea what might be causing that?

@Kelvinator good luck getting it up and going. You're doing a real service getting it back on the road.

Cheers,
J

Ok it's looking like the accumulator isn't the issue. I'm checking out the fuel tanks next. If they are corroding inside, is the best bet to get a new set of tanks? Ziga where did you get yours from?

Cheers

Got one of these fitted as a pre fuel pump filter and then a standard filter after the pump. You can replace the element inside so the initial cost may be more but works out better in the long run.

Cheers Steve
Hey Steve - thanks for the link. Which element did you end up getting? The 8 micron filter sounds like it might restrict flow, so I'm assuming it was the metal 50 micron element?
